Alex Docherty reviews the list changes, from lowest to highest on the 2014 ladder.

The trades have been made and free agents secured or lost. Draft picks, from the raw talented kids to mature age recruits, selected. Rookies have been added, some of them merely staying at the same club albeit under a different designation. And even the international project players identified and given an opportunity in a new sport.

That’s all folks, AFL team lists are now finalised for season 2015 and BigFooty is here to asses how your team, along with the 17 others, fared.

FREMANTLE

In:

National Draft:  Lachie Weller (Pick 13), Connor Blakely (Pick 34), Ed Langdon (Pick 54), Josh Deluca-Cardillo (Pick 68)

Rookie Draft: Ethan Hughes (Pick 13), Tanner Smith (Pick 31), Sean Hurley (Pick 48)

Out:

Retired: Kepler Bradley, Scott Gumbleton

Delisted: Michael Wood, Sam Menegola, Josh Simpson, Tanner Smith (Rookie-Listed)

Overview: The Dockers didn’t trouble the trade table in 2014 and when the drafts began, their decisions raised more than one eyebrow. With veteran key position players like Matthew Pavlich and Luke McPharlin nearing the end of glittering – but frustratingly premiership free – careers, the Dockers were expected to make the most of a draft rated among the best ever fofr key position prospects. Instead the Dockers overlooked well regarded juniour defenders like Sam Durdin and Hugh Goddard with their first round pick (13) on the national draft, selecting pacy and skilful midielder Lachie Weller instead. The Dockers stayed “small” throughout the draft, selecting inside midfielder, Connor Blakely, and small forwards, Ed Langdon and Josh Deluca-Cardillo. Blakely excels at the stoppages and is more than capable of winning his own ball. Langdon posesses an excellent turn of speed and known where the goals are.

PORT ADELAIDE

In:

Traded: Patrick Ryder (From Essendon)

National Draft: Dougal Howard (Pick 56), Logan Austin (Pick 69), Jesse Palmer (Pick 78), Billy Frampton (Pick 84)

Rookie Draft: Nathan Krakouer (Pick 16), Tom Logan (Pick 34), Johann Wagner (Pick 51)

Rookie Elevation: Kane Mitchell

Out:

Retired: Dom Cassisi

Delisted: Brent Renouf, Cameron Hitchcock, Campbell Heath, Lewis Stevenson, Ben Newton

Overview: The Power spent all of the trade period trying to facilitate a deal with Essendon to get Patrick Ryder over to Alberton, and after intense negotiations, Port got their man. Ryder will give Matthew Lobbe a helping hand in the ruck as well as provide another tall option in the forward line. With no real specific other needs on the playing list, the Power decided to go tall in the draft, using all four selections on players 188cm and above. Interestingly, Port took two selected two GWS Academy players with their first two live nationbal draft picks in tall forward Dougal Howard and good sized defender, Logan Austin. Ruckman Billy Frampton has shown promise but remains are a project player, while forward Jesse Palmer will provide forward depth. Nathan Krakouer gets another chance at an AFL career and his progress will be fascinating to watch.

NORTH MELBOURNE

In:

Free Agency: Jarrad Waite (From Carlton), Shaun Higgins (From Western Bulldogs),

Drafted: Sam Durdin (Pick 16), Daniel Nielson (Pick 25), Ed Vickers-Willis (Pick 36)

Rookie Drafted: Braydon Preuss (Pick 15), Will Fordham (Pick 33), Max Warren (Pick 50), Robin Nahas (Pick 63)

Rookie Elevations: Kayne Turner, Joel Tippett

Out:

Traded: Levi Greenwood (To Collingwood)

Delisted: Liam Anthony, Tom Curran, Cameron Delaney, Taylor Hine, Robin Nahas (Rookie-Listed), Tim McGenniss, Max Warren (Rookie-Listed)

Overview: North Melbourne will be ecstastic with their list going into 2015. While the loss of Levi Greenwood to Collingwood was not ideal, inside midfielders is a area where the Kangaroos have an abundance of options to step into the newly vacant role. The Kangaroos again hit the free agent market, addiding the exquistely skilled if physically fragile Shaun Higgins into an outside midfield rotation already boasting the quality of Brent Harvey, Daniel Wells and Nick Dal Santo. Fellow free agent Jarrad Waite provides an imposing physical presence at either end of the ground. Clearly employing a strategy of topping up via free agency for a flag tilt while retaining high draft picks to renew the list over time, North were thrilled that hufely promising key defender Sam Durdin was still available at pick 16. Durdin will be groomed to take over from All Australian full back Scott Thompson in coming years. Daniel Nielson was highly rated as a shut down defender in his juniour years wheil Ed Vickers-Wills can play a veriety of roles in the back half.
