It’s been a busy, busy week at the AFL Match Review Panel with twenty players charged from Round 9.

Callum Sinclair, Sydney Swans, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Sam Mitchell, Hawthorn, during the third quarter of the Round Nine match between the Sydney Swans and Hawthorn, played at the MCG on Friday May 20, 2016.

In summary, he can accept a $1000 sanction with an early plea.

Based on the available video evidence and a medical report from the Hawthorn Football Club, the incident was assessed as intentional conduct with low impact to the body. The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Tom Jonas, Port Adelaide, has been charged with striking Andrew Gaff, West Coast, during the third quarter of the Round Nine match between Port Adelaide and West Coast, played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday May 21, 2016.

Hamish Hartlett, Port Adelaide, has been charged with a third offence of being involved in a melee during the third quarter of the Round Nine match between Port Adelaide and West Coast, played at Adelaide Oval on Saturday May 21, 2016.

David Armitage, St Kilda, has been charged with engaging in rough conduct against Orazio Fantasia, Essendon, during the third quarter of the Round Nine match between St Kilda and Essendon, played at Etihad Stadium on Sunday May 22, 2016.

The incident was classified as a $1500 sanction. The player has no applicable record which impacts the penalty. An early plea enables the player to accept a $1000 sanction.

Other Incidents Assessed:

The match day report laid against Port Adelaide’s Robbie Gray for tripping West Coast’s Mark LeCras during the third quarter was assessed. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required for a report. No further action was taken.

The match day report laid against Richmond’s Ty Vickery for striking Fremantle’s Nick Suban during the third quarter was assessed. It was the view of the panel the force used was below that required for a report. No further action was taken.

The match day report laid against Fremantle’s Zac Dawson for engaging in rough conduct against Richmond’s Steven Morris during the third quarter was assessed. The panel said Dawson was running towards the contest in a bid to mark the ball. Morris was running back with the flight of the ball and got to the contest first to complete the mark. Dawson had his left hand open and made contact across the front of Morris with his bicep / upper arm area. It was the view of the panel there was insufficient high contact made to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell and the Sydney Swans’ Dan Hannebery from the second quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The ball was kicked forward to a contest in the Hawthorn attacking area. Mitchell and Hannebery were in front of the contest seeking to make position. Mitchell pushed Hannebery with an open hand and made high contact. It was the view of the panel the action was not a striking motion and was not a reportable offence. No further action was taken.

Contact between St Kilda’s Leigh Montagna and Essendon’s Mark Baguley from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Baguley tackled Montagna to the ground after play had stopped. A melee involving several players then took place, which the MRP has acted on separately. It was the view of the panel the contact between Montagna and Baguley was below the force required for a report. No further action was taken.
