The days of chilly mid-August football games and washed out days during the Boxing Day Test could one day be a thing of the past with the unveiling of a radical proposal to put a retractable roof over the MCG.
A roof over the @MCG might not be as farfetched as it sounds with the bold proposal put forward – @MelinaSarris7. https://t.co/0PfOWaqL1v

While any formal plan is still years off, outgoing stadium boss Stephen Gough has put forward the idea as part of an investigation the future of Melbourne.
“I think technology is on our side here and the engineers are working on all sorts of solutions about that,” Gough told the Herald Sun.
The controversial proposal immediately sparked some fierce debate on Twitter, with most footy fans against the idea.
Story of roof on the @MCG has to be a very early #aprilfoolsday joke. Don't read many positive stories on @EtihadStadiumAU why ruin the 'G'

WHY do we need a roof on the @MCG Seriously @MCC_Members WHY does everything have to be like America?

Retractable roof at the MCG ??!! No way ..it'd destroy best atmosphere in world sport. And the odd rainy game at G adds to footy 's appeal.
