Brisbane and Carlton sit 17th and 18th before they meet at the Gabba today. In a year with little for either club’s fans to cheer about the loser will most likely take out the spoon. The flip side to finishing in last place this year is the incredible talent available in the draft and the opportunity to choose from the three talents who are each as likely as the other to be this year’s #1 pick.

Jack Lukosius

Jack Lukosius has been compared to Nick Riewoldt and it’s easy to see why. He’s 194cm tall but runs as hard as any midfielder. He has brilliant foot skills and marks the ball with ease. Lukosius is also proven against men, he kicked four goals in his seniors SANFL debut during a preliminary final last year. The Blues would love to pair him with Curnow as much as the Lions would like to see him in the same forward line as Hipwood.

Sam Walsh

Walsh is the clear stand out best midfielder in the draft this year and would be a worthy #1 pick. The Geelong Falcon averaged 29.5 for Vic Country in the NAB U18 Championships and won the Larke Medal for best player in division one. Walsh runs hard and uses the ball very well with an ever improving contested game. The Queensland clubs have preferred drafting Vic Country players as they seem less affected by the “go home factor” but Carlton need a midfielder to go alongside Cripps as well.

Izak Rankine

Just watch the below video from Big Footy poster giantroo and see what Izak Rankine can do. In South Australia’s final game for the Championships Rankine kicked 3.2 in the first quarter alone including a soccer out of mid air from within a pack, an obscene snap on an angle and a flying speccie. Rankine ended the match with five goals and led the Croweaters to their first Champs title since 2014. Rankine could be almost anything such is his talent and will bring crowds in to watch him alone.
