Whoops! How could I almost forget this week’s Interestometer? Not a lot on offer this week with lots of clashes with teams either well outside the eight or between top eight and bottom eight sides. In fact if I had a tipping joker to play, this would be the week to do it I think. Lots of one-sided clashes … in theory!
Let’s get into it….
#1 – Pies (4th) vs Tigers (5th)

No.1 match of interest by about 10 MCGs this week! The injury ravaged Pies up against a resurgent Tigers outfit who many are tipping will go very close to taking it all out this year. On the line is a top four berth. In fact as commented by Thefly38 on the forum, when they talk 8 point games this is a deadset 12 point game. Huge is an understatement. On paper it’s actually hard to see the Pies getting anywhere near the Tigers, especially given their horrific performance last week against GWS. Of course two weeks ago everyone was expecting the Eagles to obliterate the Pies … and look what happened. It will be a huge crowd and our only MUST WATCH game this week.
#2 – Hawks (10th) vs Lions (2nd)

If this was at the Gabba I’m not sure it would have registered at all but with the Hawks shocking the Cats last Sunday this game is all of a sudden very interesting. Sadly for all of us that would like to see the Hawks nick off for a very long time after their successes earlier this decade… it actually looks like Clarkson has them turning the corner. The big thing in their favour is that this game is in Tassie – essentially a fortress for the Hawks. For the Lions, they’ll be without their backline star Harris Andrews. Should be a good one.
#3 – Power (9th) vs Giants (6th)

This is must win territory for the Power. We don’t think they’ll get over the line but if they’re to have a hope in hell of reaching September they must win this game. The Giants… well after a horror run of injuries, they bounced back last week big time, ending the contest with the Pies by quarter time. Their forward line were as lethal as we’ve ever seen. And that performance was without Kelly, Corniglio, Patton, Ward, Langdon and a host of others. Of course the Giants will be celebrating Heath Shaw’s 300th so it’s a big game for them.
#4 – Blues (16th) v Crows (8th)

Don’t look now but the Blues are coming into this game on the back of a two game winning streak. Yes, you read that correctly. The Crows have lost three of their past five matches, including last Friday night’s blockbuster with the Bombers – where they led by 5 goals before being overrun. Eddie Betts being axed certainly adds a level of intrigue to this match. Can the Blues continue their winning run or will the Crows be stung by their veteran’s ommission.
