AFLCA APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The AFLCA Board of Management is pleased to advise that Alistair Nicholson has been appointed as the AFLCA’s Chief Executive Officer.
Mr Nicholson is well-known in the AFL community as a former Demon who played in excess of 100 senior AFL games. Subsequent to his AFL career, he forged an impressive career, including as gemba’s Head of Strategy and more recently CEO of the Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA). The ACA is the representative body for all Australian professional cricketers. Amongst a number of accomplishments, Mr Nicholson played a pivotal role in securing the current collective bargaining agreement with Cricket Australia that generated circa $530m for the benefit of ACA’s members, ensured female player representation and implemented a ‘best-in-class’ professional development and wellbeing program.
AFLCA Chairman Greg Nichols welcomed Alistair as the Association’s new leader. “The Directors in their deliberations applied the message imparted by the Senior Coaches at the AFLCA Annual General Meeting of prioritising advocacy, negotiation skills, high performance leadership and strategic capability as characteristics that the successful candidate must excel at. We strongly believe that Alistair fulfils the criteria promoted by the Senior Coaches.”
Mr Nicholson expressed his excitement at the new challenge with the AFLCA. ”I’m very pleased to support the AFL coaching community who play such a crucial role as leaders in the AFL system. Their welfare and well-being is fundamental as they guide hundreds of players in an industry that is both relentless and rewarding. I look forward to working with the members to advance their interests.”
Mr Nicholson commences in April.
