The Hawthorn Football Club has secured the future of one of its rising stars, with ruckman Ned Reeves signing a three-year contract extension. The 24-year-old will now remain with the club until the end of the 2026 season.
Reeves had a standout season in 2022, playing a career-high 12 games and establishing himself as an important part of Hawthorn’s ruck division. With an average of 26.9 hitouts per game, the 210cm giant impressed with his aerial ability and developing ruck craft. He also demonstrated an ability to push forward and provide a target inside the attacking 50.
National Recruiting and List Manager Mark McKenzie praised Reeves’ rapid growth as a key factor in his contract extension. “We see Ned as a vital part of Hawthorn’s future and are thrilled that he has committed to the club for another three years,” McKenzie said. “His progression as a young ruckman has been impressive, and he continues to build upon his development each day with his strong work ethic.”
McKenzie also spoke highly of Reeves’ potential, saying, “At only 24 years old, we believe Ned’s ceiling is as high as any young ruckman in the league and look forward to seeing him take the next step in 2023.”
This contract extension is a significant move for the Hawthorn Football Club, securing the future of one of its rising stars and demonstrating its commitment to building a strong, young team for the future.
