Brisbane Lions fans in Southeast Queensland are in for a treat this week as their favourite players come to town for the 2023 AFL Community Camp. This two-day event, running from February 6th to 7th, will allow the players to connect with fans and members across the region.
The players will travel hundreds of kilometers to visit more than 60 schools, junior football clubs, and community organizations, engaging with thousands of people along the way. From Murgon to Gympie and the Sunshine Coast, to the Wide Bay, the Darling Downs, and across Brisbane, the Lions will make stops to meet fans and members face-to-face.
To cap off the camp, the Lions will host a Super Clinic at the Brighton Homes Arena, their new home in Springfield Central. This will give fans a chance to get up close and personal with their favourite players and see them in action.
Brisbane Lions Vice-Captain and former Queensland football pathway product, Harris Andrews, expressed excitement about spending time with fans at the grassroots level. He shared his memories of school visits as a child and how special it was to receive inspiration from AFL players. Now, as an AFL player himself, he sees it as an opportunity to give back to the next generation across Queensland.
Brisbane Lions Community Manager, James Dowling, spoke about the importance of giving back to the community. He acknowledged that everyone involved with football in local towns and at community clubs across Queensland is the lifeblood of Australian rules football. He also expressed his excitement about the return of the AFL Community Camps after two years of interruption due to COVID.
The playing group is ready to hit the road and meet fans, so keep an eye out, Lions fans.
