Carlton Football Club has confirmed that Lucy McEvoy will depart the team through the AFLW Priority Signing Period (PSP). The departure comes as a result of new rules announced last week that permit the four recent AFLW expansion sides to recruit established players who have played three or more seasons without needing to facilitate a trade.
McEvoy played 33 games over four seasons for the Carlton Blues after being selected with the second pick in the 2019 NAB AFLW Draft. Despite the loss, the club’s Head of Football Brad Lloyd understands the current environment and is determined to move forward with the team’s AFLW program.
“Lucy was a valuable member of our playing group so clearly we are disappointed to lose her,” said Lloyd. “Our club is being very process-driven in regard to what we want to establish with our AFLW program over the coming months, we know that will come with its challenges, but we are determined to move forward as a program, in order to put us in a position to launch into this next phase.”
The AFLW List committee will determine any relevant compensation for the club at the conclusion of the PSP, including draft picks to be used in the AFLW Draft leading into Season Nine of the AFLW. However, any compensation will not be permitted to be traded in the Sign and Trade Period.
