Geelong Football Club has added another star to its lineup with the appointment of Daisy Pearce as part of the AFL’s Women’s Coach Acceleration Program. The program, which was launched by the AFL in 2021, is aimed at creating legitimate coaching pathways for women in the sport.

Pearce, a former AFLW player and well-known figure in the women’s football community, has committed to a four-year term with Geelong. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and support from both Melbourne and Geelong during the process, saying she was excited to start her coaching journey and learn from Geelong’s head coach Chris Scott and the rest of the coaching team.

As part of her role in the program, Pearce will join the men’s team as a Development Coach. She will participate in game planning sessions, attend match committee meetings, and have access to the AFL match day coaching box. Geelong will work with Pearce to develop a set of development objectives, with mentorship from Chris Scott and support from the broader coaching group.

Geelong’s General Manager of Football, Simon Lloyd, stated that the club was thrilled to have Pearce join the team. He praised her as a significant name in football, with incredible knowledge of the game and enormous potential to coach at the highest level. Lloyd credited the AFL for setting up the Women’s Coach Acceleration Program and expressed excitement for what Pearce will achieve in her role.

The program is co-funded by the AFL and is subject to the relevant Soft Cap exemptions. With the appointment of Pearce, Geelong continues to show its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity in the sport.
