The Carlton Football Club is thrilled to announce that Cooper Lord will make his AFL debut this Sunday against West Coast. Lord, who was selected with pick No. 9 in the 2024 AFL Mid-Season Rookie Draft, has quickly established himself as a standout performer since joining the club.

Since donning the Navy Blue in the VFL, Lord has consistently delivered impressive performances. Over his seven games at IKON Park, he has averaged nearly 26 disposals, seven tackles, and over four clearances per game. His most remarkable performance came last weekend against Geelong, where he amassed 30 disposals, nine tackles, and six clearances, leading Carlton to a 23-point victory.

Known for his clean ball handling and strong defensive abilities, Lord made a name for himself last year with the Sandringham Dragons, where he was the top disposal-getter in their premiership-winning team—a feat he achieved at IKON Park. His performances with the Dragons and Vic Metro in 2023, followed by impressive stints with North Melbourne’s VFL team and the Young Guns, caught the attention of Carlton, who wasted no time in drafting him.

In just under three months, Lord has earned his spot in the AFL, a testament to his hard work and talent. He will wear the No. 36 guernsey, joining the ranks of notable players who have donned the same number, including former captain Mark Maclure and current Carlton assistant coach Aaron Hamill.

As Lord prepares for his debut, there is palpable excitement within the club and among the fans. His rapid rise from a mid-season draftee to an AFL debutant is a story of dedication and promise, and all eyes will be on him as he takes the field this Sunday. The club, teammates, and supporters alike are eager to see how this young talent will perform on the big stage.
