The Melbourne Football Club has announced a leadership transition, with club legend Brad Green stepping in as President, following the immediate resignation of Kate Roffey. Roffey, who has been with the Melbourne Football Club Board since 2013 and served as President since 2021, will also vacate her position on the Board.

Roffey expressed her gratitude for the support she has received during her tenure, reflecting on her time with the club. “As I finish up my incredible time with the Melbourne Football Club, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me – from fellow Directors and CEO Gary Pert, to the dedicated staff, coaches Simon Goodwin and Mick Stinear, and our amazing members, especially the Mighty Demon Army,” said Roffey.

She also acknowledged the families of the players and shared a personal message to the team. “To the men and women who play for the red and blue, the most rewarding part of this role has been getting to know you and share in those special moments. I’ll continue cheering you on from the stands.”

Incoming President Brad Green praised Roffey’s leadership and legacy. “Kate took over during a challenging time and brought stability to the club. Under her leadership, we’ve seen record membership growth, strong financial results, and won both AFL and AFLW premierships,” Green said.

Green also highlighted Roffey’s role in key initiatives, including the Casey Fields development and the club’s Future Fund. “As the first female President of Melbourne Football Club, Kate has secured her place as a trailblazer in the game, always putting our members and fans first.”

As part of his new role, Green will lead a review of the Board with a focus on resetting and enhancing its performance. “I’m honoured to serve as President and will lead this collaborative process to ensure we are united and focused on achieving success for our members and fans. It’s important we reflect on where we’ve succeeded and where we can improve,” Green said.

The review will give the Board an opportunity to vote again on the Presidency once it is completed, with Green emphasizing the need for unity. “We are united by our love for this club, and I want to bring us all together as one red and blue force.”
