The Adelaide Crows have secured the futures of four emerging young players, with James Borlase, Hugh Bond, Charlie Edwards, and Oscar Ryan all extending their contracts.
James Borlase, 22, has been rewarded for his consistent performances with a new two-year deal that will keep him at the club until 2026. The key defender, who joined Adelaide as a Category B rookie in 2020, has developed into a reliable player this season, playing 10 AFL games.
“James had to bide his time for an opportunity, but once it presented itself, he grabbed it with both hands,” said Crows GM of List Management and Strategy Justin Reid. “We’re pleased he will continue with us for the next two seasons.”

Borlase expressed his excitement for the future: “I’ve worked hard and got an opportunity to play some AFL this year, and I’m thankful the Club has rewarded me with another contract. I love the Club, and I’m really looking forward to what the next couple of years hold.”
Hugh Bond, 19, has signed a one-year extension to the end of 2025 after an impressive second half of the season. Bond debuted in Round 18 and played the final seven AFL games, showcasing his defensive ability and competitiveness.
“Bondy has been terrific in embracing the role the coaches have set for him. His team-first attitude and determination have earned him this contract extension,” said Reid.
Meanwhile, Charlie Edwards and Oscar Ryan, both 19, have extended their contracts to the end of 2026. Edwards, a strong-bodied inside midfielder, impressed in the SANFL, while Ryan, a classy rebound defender, averaged 18.6 disposals per game at an impressive 88% efficiency.
Reid praised both players’ efforts in their first year: “We knew Charlie and Oscar had the talent, and they’ve embraced the hard work that comes with being a first-year AFL player. We look forward to them pushing for AFL selection next year.”
With all three of Adelaide’s first-round draftees from last year now locked in, the Crows are set to continue to develop their young talent.
