North Melbourne celebrated a significant milestone for one of their own on Thursday, with a special presentation for Todd Goldstein ahead of his 300th game this weekend.
Goldstein, a ruckman who has been a stalwart of the Kangaroos’ team for more than a decade, was the guest of honour at the club’s Arden St headquarters in Melbourne. North Melbourne president Dr Sonja Hood led the tributes for Goldstein, who will become just the sixth player in the club’s history to reach 300 games when he runs out against the Gold Coast on Sunday.
Speaking to a small gathering of teammates, officials, family and friends, Hood paid tribute to Goldstein’s character and commitment to the club. “To play 300 games you don’t just have to be a great player, you have to be a great bloke, and Todd is undoubtedly a great bloke,” she said.
“I know from first-hand experience he is brave, uncompromising, and cares deeply about this club and the people in it. On a personal note, it has been an absolute privilege to have a front-row seat on your journey, and Todd, I’m really looking forward to your next 300 games.”
Goldstein, 33, was visibly moved by the occasion, thanking his family, teammates and the club for their support over the years. “It’s a huge honour to play 300 games for this great club,” he said.
“I’ve had some incredible moments here, and some tough times too, but the thing that has always kept me going is the people around me. I want to thank everyone who has been part of my journey, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
Goldstein made his debut for North Melbourne in 2008, and has since become one of the most consistent and reliable players in the AFL. He has won two club best-and-fairest awards, been named in the All-Australian team twice, and is widely regarded as one of the best ruckmen in the game.
His milestone game this weekend is a testament to his durability and longevity, as well as his skill and determination. Goldstein has been a constant presence for North Melbourne over the past 15 years, and his contribution to the club has been immense.
