The Australian Football League (AFL) announced that the Tribunal will convene today, July 11, to consider and determine incidents involving players Toby Nankervis of Richmond and Caleb Serong of Fremantle. Joshua Rachele of the Adelaide Crows has also chosen to challenge his sanction with a written submission to the Tribunal.
While most players involved in incidents from Round Seventeen of the 2023 Toyota AFL Premiership Season accepted their sanctions as dictated by the Match Review, Nankervis, Serong, and Rachele have decided to fight their respective charges.
The Tribunal will first focus its attention on the incident involving Toby Nankervis. The Richmond player was involved in a controversial second-quarter altercation with Sydney’s Jake Lloyd during their Round Seventeen match. The session will commence at 4:00 pm AEST today to scrutinise the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine appropriate sanctions, if any.
The second hearing scheduled for today, at 5:30 pm AEST, will see the Tribunal delve into the incident involving Fremantle’s Caleb Serong and Carlton’s Adam Cerra. The encounter occurred during the second quarter of their Round Seventeen match.
In addition to these Tribunal sittings, the AFL also revealed that Adelaide Crows’ Joshua Rachele has elected to challenge his sanction, though this will be done via a written submission rather than an in-person hearing. The outcome of Rachele’s submission will be communicated once the Tribunal has reviewed and made its determination.
