Yes folks it was the week of the rookie QB’s with Carr, Bortles and Bridgewater all playing the majority of their respective matches. While they all lost, it’s easy to see where the futures of each of their respective franchises are heading. Let’s face it they can’t be worse than their predecessors can they? Looking at you Chad Henne and Matt Cassel.
Thursday night kicked off the week and it wasn’t pretty. Matt Ryan annihilated the Bucs to the tune of 3 TDs, 286yds and 21/24 passes completed. Julio Jones was as equally dominant hauling in 9 catches for 161yds and 2 TDs. While Devin Hester broke Deion Sanders’ long standing return TD record. I now regret buying into the pre-season hype on the Bucs, they are woeful. (14-56) Falcons
It may only be 3 games in but the San Diego Chargers sure do look solid on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately for the Bills their strong start to the season faltered when they ran into the hot Chargers. Sammy Watkins was poor after a strong showing in Week 2. The Bills have plenty to look forward to but they will still have growing pains over the coming weeks. (22-10) Chargers
It wasn’t a good day for the Titans who found out that former kicker Rob Bironas died over night in a car accident, they then faced an undefeated Bengals side that was looking to continue on their winning ways. Andy Dalton became the first Bengal QB to catch a TD pass and everything went wrong for the Titans in what was a terrible day for them. Our wishes go out to the family of Bironas. (7-33) Bengals
Nothing can go right for the Browns it seems as they had a disastrous second half that led to a last minute field goal defeat at the hands of the Ravens. It must be hard being a Browns fan and suffering so many loses but at least you guys are used to it. The Ravens though just aren’t clicking and I doubt they are any legitimate play-off chance unless something changes drastically. (23-21) Ravens
The Packers offence was outscored 7 to 9 by the Detroit Lions defence, yes you’ve read that correctly and in what was close to the most pathetic offensive performances I’ve seen from the Pack they only managed 162yds in the air with Rodgers I might add against big name DBs such as Slay, Seisay, Mathis and Abdull-Quddus. All this with Matt Stafford turning the ball over 3 times, but credit to the Lions D-line they balled throughout the whole game. (7-19) Lions
In the only positive for Jacksonville to come out of the game they saw the future at QB with Blake Bortles seeing action for the second half as Chad Henne was benched in favour of the rookie QB. Andrew Luck dominated against the Jags in the first half throwing 3 TDs to lead 30-0 at the half. Things can only get better Jag fans, well I hope. (44-17) Colts
The Raiders and Patriots matchup was boring until the final minutes of the match that saw a big defence PI call against the Pats, a Darren McFadden TD run called back because of a holding penalty and then Carr threw an interception that was tipped out of his receivers hands and caught by Wilfork. Brady also became the 3rd QB to notch 150 regular season wins behind Favre and P.Manning. (9-16) Patriots
The Saints capitalized on a Vikings team that is floundering without its star running back Adrian Peterson. In better news for the Vikes Bridgewater saw extended playing time due to an injury to Matt Cassel forcing the rookie QB in. (9-20) Saints
Well Coughlin and Manning can hold off on the job hunt for now as the Giants ended a previously undefeated Texans team with a brutal rushing attack from Rashad Jennings. Fitzpatrick still sucks as -he threw 3 INTs, at least Texans fans get to watch J.J. Watt do his thing. (17-30) Giants
It was a spiteful clash in Philly with both the Skins and Eagles taking cheap shots all day that resulted in Baker being ejected along with Peters after what looked like a Foles interception. It was a high scoring offensive matchup that saw both defences put to the torch by these young QBs in Foles and Cousins who threw a bad interception and missed a crucial 4th down conversion attempt. (34-37) Eagles
Two of the most disappointing franchises in Dallas and St. Louis faced off and it was actually and excitement filled clash with INTs returned for TDs, wide receivers left wide open for big TDs and Dallas rallying from 21 points down to comeback for the win. Both these teams still suck though. (34-31) Cowboys
It’s hard not to be impressed by the Cardinals. A team that’s been ravaged by injury and having to start Drew friggen Stanton just keeps finding ways to win, this week it was with some help from the refs as they downed a so far underwhelming 49ers side who just keep finding ways to lose. (14-23) Cardinals
Alex Smith after starting poorly so far this season threw 19 of 25 passes with 3 drops, as his team easily accounted for the drowning Dolphins even with the Chiefs fumbling everything along the way. Unfortunately the only thing the Dolphins have going for them are its stunning cheerleaders. (34-15) Chiefs
If only the Superbowl was as entertaining as what the rematch turned out to be. Manning led a brilliant fourth quarter comeback to rally from 17-3 down to level the scores at 20 a piece with 18 seconds to go forcing the game to OT. The Seahawks escaped a narrow lose thanks to some brilliant individual efforts from Wilson in OT to secure the victory. (20-26) Seahawks
For the first time since 1986 the Steelers had two 100yd rushes in a game as they quite literally ploughed through the Carolina Panthers in what was a much improved performance from the Steelers after last week’s debacle. Newton again took some big hits and looked sore which if this continues will sorely dent Carolina’s play-off aspirations. (37-19) Steelers
It really hasn’t been a good week for the Jets, firstly there was the time out debacle at Lambeau and then they had a fumble return not allowed because the refs blew the whistle. The Bears and their tall receivers even without Marshall capitalised on a weakened Jets secondary. (27-19) Bears
Things to look forward to in week 4:
1. Does Mike McCarthy see a proctologist to remove his head from his arse?
2. Will the Eagles remain undefeated?
3. Who remains winless? (Jaguars, Raiders, Buccaneers)
4. Which college players are making a splash? (good or bad)
