Footy fans, get ready for a blockbuster Thursday night clash at the MCG as Carlton squares up against Melbourne. The Blues have swung four changes for their next big test, bringing back some key players but losing yet another to injury.
In come Brodie Kemp, Mitch McGovern, Jack Martin, and Ollie Hollands to bolster the lineup. Martin, who’s had a rough road to recovery after a knee injury and a late hamstring setback, is finally ready to roll for his first game since last year’s preliminary final. McGovern hasn’t laced up since Round 6, but he’s back in business to add some experience and skill to Carlton’s defense.
Unfortunately, Zac Williams won’t make it, after being subbed out in the loss to Collingwood with glute soreness. Despite Caleb Marchbank training fully, he hasn’t been named. Meanwhile, Lewis Young, David Cuningham, and Orazio Fantasia are all out of the side.
Melbourne has their own reinforcements coming in, with Jake Bowey returning after breaking his collarbone back in the season opener. He’ll slot in for Bailey Laurie, who’s been omitted.
As for the rest of the Round 9 teams, we’ll have to wait until Thursday at 6:20 pm AEST for the full lineup announcements.
Over at Bomberland, they got the job done against West Coast on Saturday night, but it wasn’t without a few hiccups. Then, to add salt to the wound, Xavier Duursma tore his quad at training on Wednesday, which means he’s looking at four weeks on the sidelines.
Alwyn Davey Jnr might find himself in hot water after a quiet outing with only four touches, but there’s good news with big Sam Draper expected back after a rest last week. Jye Caldwell got subbed off with a bit of calf tightness, but no worries there—he’s fit and ready to go.
Will Setterfield could be back from a knee niggle, but might need another week to get himself right. The VFL Bombers had the weekend off, but keep an eye on Elijah Tsatas, who’s been knocking on the door for a while now. Plus, Zach Reid (hamstring) could make his comeback via the VFL this weekend, according to Brad Scott.
