The ICC has also issued a warrant for Hamas leader Mohammed Deif, who Israel says they have killed.

According to the ICC, the chamber “found reasonable grounds to believe” that Deif was “responsible for the crimes against humanity of murder; extermination; torture; and rape and other form of sexual violence; as well as the war crimes of murder, cruel treatment, torture; taking hostages; outrages upon personal dignity; and rape and other form of sexual violence”.

It also said there were reasonable grounds to believe the crimes against humanity were “part of a widespread and systematic attack directed by Hamas and other armed groups against the civilian population of Israel”.

For Netanyahu and Gallant, who was replaced as defence minister earlier this month, the chamber “found reasonable grounds to believe” that they “each bear criminal responsibility for the following crimes as co-perpetrators for committing the acts jointly with others: the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare; and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts”.

It also found reasonable grounds to believe that “each bear criminal responsibility as civilian superiors for the war crime of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population”.

Some commentary regarding the women being released by Hamas:

ABC global affairs editor John Lyons spoke to Bridget Brennan on News Breakfast earlier this morning about some of the logistics behind Hamas's release of the three hostages.

He says because the terror group doesn't want the location of the remaining 97 hostages publicly known — or, indeed, where these three hostages were previously held — Hamas would have had to bring the hostages into Gaza City from a secret location without being detected by Israeli drones, before driving them north to the handover point.

I'm not sure what 'public displays of joy' are, but presumably we won't see much personal interest coverage of individual Palestinians being released the way we have the Israeli's.

About 90 Palestinian prisoners are currently being driven by bus to Ramallah in the West Bank in exchange for the release of the three Israeli hostages.

That's a ratio of 30 to 1 — a sort of "prisoner exchange rate" that is expected to be maintained over the next few weeks as Hamas releases a further 30 hostages.

Palestinians have gathered in Ramallah to welcome the returning prisoners, with families and young children joining the celebrations.

It's worth noting Israel's prison service has said it will take measures to prevent "public displays of joy" upon the prisoners' release — part of the reason the prison service is conducting the release itself, rather than transferring prisoners via the Red Cross.

Meanwhile NYT reporting Israel are slow to release the Palestinian women and children; remembering they bombed Gaza during the delay yesterday.

Hours after Hamas released the three women hostages, and they returned to joyous reunions with their families, Palestinians are still waiting for Israel to fulfill its side of the exchange: the release of 90 Palestinian women and minors jailed for purported militancy or other national security offenses. Neither the Israeli authorities nor the International Committee of the Red Cross, which is expected to ferry the prisoners out by bus, have provided an explanation for the delay.

A little bit more from the NYT on this one:

The mood in the West Bank has been subdued all day as family and friends of the 90 Palestinians set to be released await news of their loved ones. Families of the prisoners have been warned by the Israeli government, which controls the West Bank, against any form of public celebration.

Would you want to watch the joy of convicted terrorists being released? How would families of the victims feel?

The three hostages released by Hamas from the Gaza Strip today were given “gift bags” by members of the terror group before they were handed over to the Red Cross.

According to Hebrew-language media reports, the bags included photos of them in Hamas captivity and a “certificate.”

A video released by the IDF shows former hostages Romi Gonen, Emily Damari, and Doron Steinbrecher holding the gift bags when they were handed over to troops.

Meanwhile, Settlers continue to do what they do

Rights group reports 4 settler attacks on West Bank Palestinians

The Yesh Din rights group says four settler attacks on Palestinians have taken place this evening.

In one previously reported attack in Sinjil, two houses were torched along with four vehicles.

In Ein Sinya, settlers set a house on fire.

In Turmusaya, dozens of settlers hurled stones at civilians and damaged property.

On the West Bank’s main north-south highway Route 60, settlers are hurling stones at passing Palestinian vehicles, the group says.

“This is the message the Israeli government and Defense Minister Katz send when they seek to ‘strengthen and encourage’ the settlements: Settler violence against innocent Palestinians without a response from the security forces,” Yesh Din says in a statement.

Last week, Defense Minister Israel Katz released all 16 Israeli Jews who were under administration detention due to their alleged involvement in attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank. Katz argued that it was better for settlers to be able to rejoice amid the hostage deal, rather than only the families of Palestinian terrorists slated for release.

The Shin Bet was not consulted in the move and warned that it could further destabilize the West Bank.

Thousands of Palestinians and dozens of Israeli Arabs remain under administration detention.

Tel Hashomer Hospital Director Dr. Yael Frankel-Nir says that the physical condition of the released hostages is good enough to allow them to focus on reuniting with family members.

“Their condition allows us to focus on the important thing, which is reuniting with their families, and to postpone delving into medical issues for a few hours,” she says.

“We are closely accompanying them and their families,” she says.

90 women and children are being released.

I'm sure the highly trustworthy Israeli government would argue they're all convicted terrorists, but I'd trust that about as much as I'd trust the Russian government.
The first 90 are recent detainees. This will be followed shortly by the release of some terrorists serving sentences for murder.

Israeli forces have been using tear gas on Palestinians outside Ofer Prison

This is an attempt by Israeli forces to push families and media back because they do not want any attention on the release of Palestinian prisoners.

The Israeli prison service released a statement days ago saying that they are going to be heavily involved in this release, more so than they were previously because they want to limit all expressions of joy among Palestinians who are getting released.

This prisoner release was a huge point of contention in the Israeli government because the far-right didn’t want to see any released at all.

So it’s not so shocking to see this tear gas being fired at people in the area because we saw similar scenes back in November of 2023 when the first and only other ceasefire deal took place.

The reason why the Israeli military is taking so long to release them is that they don’t want people on the street celebrating.

The planned release of 90 Palestinian security prisoners from Israeli prisons hasn’t yet begun, with Israeli sources reportedly blaming the Red Cross.

According to an anonymous official cited by the Ynet news site, “the step is meant to present Israel as not living up to agreements.”

A total of almost 2,000 inmates are planned to be released during the first phase of the ceasefire deal. Today’s batch reportedly includes mostly female prisoners and some minors and older inmates.

I'll like to read where the children have been convicted of terrorism.

I'll await the list, the delayed list I might add.

There might be a couple convicted of knife attacks but we'll wait.

Will it? Please provide a source for this.

As I have read Israel will not release any convicted prisoner on murder charges.

When you say 'children', are you imagining 5 year olds? They are mostly if not all teenagers, probably not 'convicted of terrorism', but for things such as throwing stones, which is a the most common reason for them being detained.

Israel has released the first batch of 90 Palestinian security prisoners in exchange for the three hostages released from Gaza, the Israel Prisons Service says.

Palestinian reports say some have been taken to Ramallah and their East Jerusalem homes.

Ahead of the return of the Israeli hostages, the IPS bussed the first round of Palestinian prisoners to Ofer Prison in the West Bank, where Israeli security forces and Red Cross representatives verified each prisoner’s identity and performed medical checks on them before releasing them in coordination with security forces and the government.

The prisoners include 78 West Bank residents, released at the Beitunia Checkpoint near Ofer Prison.

The remaining 12 East Jerusalem residents were transported back to the city and released back to their homes from the Russian Compound detention center.

Those released today include 69 women — including one minor — eight male minors, and 12 men sentenced for relatively minor offenses like incitement, identifying with terrorism and disorderly conduct, according to Ynet.

A total of almost 2,000 inmates are planned to be released during the first phase of the ceasefire deal.

As I have read Israel will not release any convicted prisoner on murder charges.

"Israel is set to release up to 1,904 Palestinian prisoners and detainees, including several serving multiple life sentences for deadly terror attacks and murder, in return for 33 Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip during the first, 42-day phase of its deal with Hamas, according to a government decision made early Saturday morning"
