Gut feel is our interest in Allen is manager driven in order to bump up his contract price.
Not to mention his dodgy knee 🥴

Allen played through some injury troubles in his 11 AFL games last campaign and has since been told that his knee has degenerated somewhat and resembles a knee of someone in their late 30s or early 40s despite the forward being just 25 years old. 1116sen. 21 Nov 2024

A few extra wrinkles around the kneecap? Be weird if one knee looked 15 years older than the other one.

LDU is exoected to stay at North Cal again said this morning
"Rival clubs dont see him wanting to take up a big offer, high profile, high pressure club change."

Pies have interest in Oscar Allen

I'd much prefer we target a gun mid or young up and coming defender personally

Imagine being sick of losing…so much that are you now scared to take up offers that would put you under “high pressure” to win games?

Incredible

And now the Hun is reporting Cameron is keen to test the market and Carlton are keen on him if TDK leaves.

Yet another bit of reporting on our player contracts referencing Perryman's and Houston's salaries. Why does the money of Perryman and Houston affect Cameron's contract at all? Completely different roles.

Cameron is contracted until the end of 2026. So it's over 12 months away, and in that time we could see 3 to 4 retirements, which will see more money to offer players the likes of Cameron....

Reeves is Fanning/ Richards poor. Bryan is the best of the guys that could seek opportunity if things went sideways, but it’s a hard pass on Reeves as an alternative. Even Moyle is suspect because he doesn’t do enough of the things we value in ruckman specifically the ability to intercept mark.
The Ruck merry-go-round is interesting every year:

This year we have:
  • Cameron (Coll) > WCE/Carl
  • TDK (Carl) > Stk
  • H Smith (Bris) / T Goad (Nth) > Adel [Strachan & O'Brien gone]
  • Flynn, Barnett, B Williams (WCE) in flux
  • Soldo (PA) in flux
  • L Jackson (Freo) > Mel talked about but unlikely
  • Reidy (Freo) looking for more game time

A key back, so that if Howe retires, Reef can take the third tall rather than the 2nd.

We even need another to replace Darcy at some point

Cochrane is there but he's no lock ot be any good and our history with players who arrive at the club and immediately start getting injured isn't great. So I won't hold my breath on Cochrane at the minute

I'd like us to go for a more known quantity

Good to hear the news re Allen.

The funny thing is that my mate was tattooing him on Monday, and he mentioned that Allen didn't have a nice word to say about the Eagles throughout the session, so he won’t be surprised if he left.

The thing I like about him is his versatility. He can play back, forward and in the ruck.

Just get it done Lippa.

Think we've got a few years before we need to think of a darcy replacement, and in the meantime we can see how cochran develops in the next 12 months

Too top heavy so yes, he did just go from 30 odd goals to delisted
Intuitively yes it would make us more top heavy, but I’m not certain it’s too top heavy with how mobile all of them are. I think we’re already seeing the benefits of what Membrey especially can offer when getting the third defender so I’m not sold he’s the one that misses. He’s just giving me JDG 2018-19 vibes in terms of output which would be huge for us.

hypothetical, which forward misses out? We wont play 8 forwards unless beau goes permanently in the middle.
For example: Checkers. Allan. Mcstay. Membery. Schultz. Jamie. Hill. Beau
We're not even playing Cox because its too tall.
Unless we are thinking a retirement either checkers or Jamie?
I don’t know if that balance was right, but if we consider OR then why not WHE? Is there not a scenario where Lippa misses and one of Hill or Elliott move up to a wing? Like SR and Manic suggested I think this is Howe’s last dance so there could be scope for one to move down back. It could well be Pendles last shot so maybe Beau makes a full time move into the middle.

IMO, this could be a benefit of not using two rucks. You can afford to go a little taller with your goal kickers if they tip in defensively. Finally a Jamie retirement would seem extremely long odds based on how he’s started the season. I haven’t seen him this sharp ever.*

*I am touching an abundance of wood as I type that out.

This history you speak of is news to me.

Maybe I should have been more specific, draftees who immediately start getting injured

Generally don't work out long term for us

At least not from memory. Scharenberg, Freeman and Rusling immediately popped to mind without even really thinking about it

Howe, Cox, Membrey, Moore, Cameron, McStay, Mihocek will all be 30+ by the beginning of next season. Adding a 27 year old tall who can seriously play will be fantastic - if his knee is likely to come good.

Can't get my head around the reports regarding Allen, Western Australian that supported WC and is the current captain but wants out.....Sorry, it doesn't compute, wants a pay rise by increasing interest, don't get me wrong, fantastic footballer but really!
