without even really doing a deep dive, Melbourne has had some absolute crackers in dry and wet conditions. Had a few dull years at the start of the hybrid era but both the first decade of Melbourne and recent times have been fantastic.

Dare I say it more than Adelaide. Adelaide had the championship showdown factor and had plenty of 'moments' but if Adelaide was the first race of the season would we be going on about how crazy Schumacher taking out Hill was or Mansell's tyre failure?

That being said, 2014 takes so many points off as I remember standing at Turn 2 for the hybrid's first laps thinking "what the hell is this sound?". And those phallic noses

1999 - Eddie Irvine's first win
2002 - Barrichello up their Cazaly, Webber's first points
2003 - wet/dry epic
2005 - Fisi's first win, entertaining mixed up grid race
2006 - so many things happened, Alonso vs Kimi, Button's fiery engine on the start/finish straight on the last lap
2009 - the whole Brawn first race story
2012 - very good race, top 4 finished within 5 sec of each other

23-24-25 were all cracking races
I was there in 99, 03, 05 and 09.

They were not exciting races. 09 was right up there with 98 as the Brawns were sooooo much better than everyone else, the only interest was whether MW would podium, and that was answered on the first lap.

Im sorry, its just not an exciting track and nothing will convince me otherwise. Even the event itself was dull prior to COVID.

Name Adelaide's memorable races.

86 for obvious reasons, one of the more iconic moments in F1 history 89 in the wet (first one I went to), 91 for the wrong reasons, 92 not only for the Senna/Mansell thing but Schumacher hunting down Berger right to the very end.

93 was Senna's last win and the thawing of his relationship with Prost, and 94 for obvious reasons. 85 wasnt a bad race either, cars were breaking left right and centre due to the heat and Keke outlasted them all.

We arent going to agree, and im not really sure why.

So 86 and 94 were obviously memorable because they were iconic moments in F1 history but Brawn's first win in 2009 isn't iconic because they dominated and Mark Webber wasn't in podium contention?

Rightio

09 was a BORING race, Karun Chandhok could have won in that car.

86 in particular had multiple lead changes and huge tension all race, 94 had Berger hunting Mansell down late in the race before he fell off the road.

For a self confessed F1 nerd you dont seem to know your history

What I will say, is F1 in the last 30 years has changed a huge amount.

On track action is far less than what it used to be, purely because the cars are so close and aero dependant.

you really stuck the landing there didn't you just
Im just saying, there wouldnt be many people who'd suggest Albert Park is an exciting race track. Rain and changeable conditions make any track look good, even Monaco.

Can someone explain why Lawson is hated. On twitter and the comments are scathing

He is very much a FIGJAM when he has done nothing to earn it. Not to mention his antics on track last season put a lot of people in the paddock offside. Then add in the fact that most people think he undeservedly got the big seat and it is all a recipe for hatred. While his performances are shit he will continue to cop it.

No one deserves to cop it like he has.
