Autopsy Swans beat Dockers by 3 points

It’s difficult to judge off so little game time but I am still concerned about Gus. I hope I’m wrong but he just looks like a good reserve player. I have similar long-term worried about Corey.
Agree. Some of Corey’s efforts and decisions were bizarre tbh. I think he lacks the footy nous to be anything more than an average player.

And Even though he looks like he’s put on muscle, he needs more. Knocked off it too easily

Very happy for McLean. He’s copped a bit on here for being slow but he showed that he gets about as much out of his talent as anyone could ask.
He looks the leanest I've ever seen him so clearly is putting the effort in. I understand the criticism of his lack of manoeuvrability but he does contest, is a good second ruck and generally a reliable kick. All players have their weaknesses and I think with Doss his positives generally outweigh the negatives.

Bice is looking best 22 to me.
He must stay. Wicks a winning move makes two. Hamling the third.
Suddenly our depth is built when Harry comes back along with Melican.
It make positions further up the ground up for grabs so players like Florent, Hayward Lloyd ( good today) have to fight for 2 spots.

Good run for first game back and if he can keep working and getting his tank going will be massive for us

A really important win. It could have gone either way so great that it went our way.

In no order, I thought Warner, Jordon, Rowbottom, McCartin, Bice, McLean and Amartey delivered our most important moments.

The future team is going to be very interesting.

  • Gulden is obviously a lock to return once he's right.
  • As club captain, Mills too.
  • McDonald I don't think is a lock but he will (and should) be straight back in.
  • Melican and McInernay are in our best too.

So that means five out from today's team. I would say:

  • Hanily.
  • Warner (Corey).
  • Ladhams.
  • Sheldrick.
  • Hamling.

It's weird how people remember one contest. Then basically build a view point around it.

There were a bunch of contests over the past 3 games where Corey was far from knocked off it.
He competed especially well at times.

Ladhams should play ahead of Grundy v the Roos IMO.

I think Cunningham and Adams probably come in

Cleary might play too

Not a game I'd watch again .

At times during it I would have shipped Amartey off and even Mclean .

But they combined for 4 in the end which is solid .

Mclean didn't take enough marks but did a lot of other stuff, Amartey clunked a fewZ

Hayward wasted so much of it but he does work hard, Papley better but still not very good without the ball- these two need to give us more.

Grundy improved in the 3rd but yeah Ladhams was crucial in the finish - good coaching

You have to win ugly. Especially when a team isn't in form. This type of can kick start a winning run. We won through sheer will & determination. Imo that's better than the flashy types of win.

I bet Hamling is glad Longmire is gone
That assumes Horse was holding Hamily back for no reason. It's much more likely holding Hamily back was the right thing to do.

Hamily came to us in Oct '23 in what looked like an early sunset to his career. He was once a very good defender but after ankle surgery saw him miss all of 2020 he only played six more games over the next three years. He couldn't recapture his form and he was pretty much unwanted by Freo.

Horse saw an opportunity. He believed Hamily could recapture his form. Two Swans pre-seasons later and 18 months in the Swans system later, playing at both ends of the ground, Hamily was showing enough of his best form to earn another chance at AFL.

I'll bet Hamling thanks Horse and Cox for throwing him a lifeline. We're fortunate our club continues to find discounted bargains.

As a old cricket coach said to me.
They don't draw pictures in the scorebook

  • Never sat through a more frustrating win. We almost killed ourselves with so many of the basic fundamental errors, almost found a way to lose it too if there was a few more seconds.....
  • However disaster adverted 0-3 would've been big trouble but with our draw and injury list but 1-2 isn't the end of the world with those things considered. Provided we clean some things up over the bye. Come round 20 it won't matter how we were playing in round 2 what might matter though is the 4 points, could be telling later.
  • Bice was ok but then great in the last again, like he was last week when he nearly won it for us. Looks so much more confident with ball in hand than a lot of others right now.
  • Chad was really good today and Jordon has been our best easily over these first 3 weeks.
  • McCartin much better player down back imo, his foot skills are absolutely diabolical but his marking down back, at times, saved us...and his bad kicking is better hidden down there (he needs to stop trying dinky kicks though, understand your limitations).
  • Didn't like the tall structure but we got away with it this one time, the talls really battled to give us anything in the air, while some of theirs talls had real presence. Amartey did it when he needed to, I guess.....Honestly hope McDonald is not going to be turned into a defender because it feels like we're really missing a hit up forward....he might not help that much in the air but we are really missing that connection at times.

Using today's team, if you assume all of Gulden, Mills, McDonald, Melican and McInernay were ready and come back in - then if you also add your other suggestions of Cunningham, Adams and Cleary - who do you think are the eight players that make way??

31 players might get the job done

I am assuming we are unlikely to have everyone fit and haven't thought any of it through.

But spitballing i'd like to see players out of
form go for a change .

Plenty of guys drifting in and out of games Lloyd, Florent, Papley , Hayward, grundy , Rowbottom even
