If Tarranto leaves the Giants something has gone horribly wrong. He loves it up there it would he like Treloar part 2.

The dream for me would be Tom Green, but the more realistic option may be Tanner Bruhn if we are talking GWS exodus.

I’m sure they’ll be fine though, probably just a bit financially restricted.
Rate him and would want him. Would come lessb expensive than Taranto or Greene.

Edit: O'Halloran excites me less, as does Stone, but I wouldn't say no to X.

Heya Saints fans.
Not sure if this is exactly the spot to post this so please excuse me if it’s not. I guess it’s media related! I am a long time lurker but rare poster on BigFooty.

This is the 4th year of an afl podcast I do called AFLoquence.. where a saints tragic (me) and a blues tragic (Emil Freund) talk all things football. New eps are up every week on all your podcasting platforms. This week after a big saints win we’ve got that winning feeling! So if you’re craving more saints related content I’d love for you to have a listen. Feedback always welcome. 🙏🏽 Go Saints.

For the Indigenous Round 11..... I was thinking a simple Traditional ST KILDA strip but RED, YELLOW BLACK...obviously substituting the yellow in for the white.

Probably been done before...I don't know! When I saw Paddy RYDER'S mouth guard it occurred to me it would work very well. Bearing in mind the fact that at some stage prior to the first World War we did have yellow included with the Red White Yellow and Black... I know a few years ago in some thread this particular piece of history had been discussed. Obviously that had nothing to do with Indigenous players contributions and culture. I think its simplicity would look very effective and a bit different to the more elaborate and beautiful recent designs.View attachment 1358519

Just a quick idea for simple application of Indigenous flag onto our traditional strip. Like I said its probably been done in some way similarly before....but to me it looks ok~apologies for my primitive paint skills.

At the time we had 2 ruckmen we couldn't choose between , and Marshall emerging.
We didn't need to keep 3 , and Hickey was the one someone else wanted.

That's actually how smart clubs make trades. Doesn't equate to "Booting ". There are a lot who post here that "Trade" = " Get rid of"
Getting rid of people doesn't make your list stronger. Trading crap players doesn't get you much back. We got more for Hickey than we got for Bruce.

Of course later Billy and StKilda were unlucky with his concussion.
Unlucky to keep the spud one.

Big fan of the podcast logo, it looks fantastic.

Who are the guys with Blake? Pic two looks like Shannas, Sziller, Leowe, Gwilt and Jesus, but the guy in glasses looks familiar but can't pick him out.

I posted this article during the Pre season regarding how important intercepts are in the modern game, and how they are a very strong statistical indicator of top teams.

Here is another article on why Hawthorn are sitting 2-0 and playing good football. The reason? well you guessed it, it's intercept possessions.

Hawthorn have:
Frost 195cm
Scrimshaw 193cm
Day 189cm
Jiath 187cm
Sicily 187cm
who are all capable interceptors

I stated the need for Highmore and Coffield to be imperative to the team setup this year as they were our best intercept defenders.
Coffield is done for the year and so it seems we've replaced him with Battle who is currently 4th in the league for intercept marks.

We need to be finding a spot for Highmore. If we can free Highmore and Battle up to be attacking interceptors whilst Webster/Wilkie/Howard focus more on defending their Tall/mid size marking options and Pato locks down a small then we should be a much better team (As long as we sort out our ball movement out of D50)
So what do you call a normal overhead mark taken by any defender, in the backline at any given time?

Would like to see Paton get his intercept marking game back too. It was a highlight in 2020.
Cant recall Paton taking too many overhead marks- I can remember him and Carlisle used to kick it backwards and forwards to each other though. I'M comfortable with him just locking down an opposition forward and leave the big marks to the bigger guys.

A mark...
Ok, so why are we going on and on about "intercept" marking then? So an intercept is not a mark ? Just dont get it. Battle takes a heap of marks and he is an "interceptor" all of a sudden. I put an O in that because it sounds more dangerous. Wonder what they would call Gary Dempsey or David Dench

I love your grumpy old man mode❤️❤️❤️
You and me against the world!

I would've thought an intercept mark was pretty self explanatory. I'll give you a couple of definitions.

Intercept Mark - A mark taken directly from an opposing players kick

Mark - A mark taken.

The reason everyone goes on about intercepts is because they have been proven to be a clear statistical indicator of "successful teams"

The definition is...... a back line player automatically intercepts, that's his position on the field and his role. so what has changed? Now the marking in the backline is glorified as some type of super duper play that is doing something beyond the normal but it has been going on for 100 years. No offense to you but it is a load of wank. Define Gary Dempsey's role then for e.g maybe a Ross Glendinning or a Bob Murray. Would they look at you strangely if you defined them as intercept markers?

I guess contested marking was the only marks old fashioned key back did in the past as they played on a man. The interceptor is the loose defender that cuts off entries like Sam Fisher did when he came out to intercept the ball off an opponent I guess.

Melbourne use Petty and May as more accountable types so that Lever can play as the loose player that runs out to meet the flight of the ball without leaving them exposed for example.

I know what they are on about but it is just a new term for marking in defence. I use footywire and they dont use intercept marking as a key stat, they use marks, contested marks and intercepts ( loose ball, errant handballs and pick ups from throw-ins etc gathered by a backman) I think marking is marking regardless.
Against Freo, Wilkie took 8 and battle 13 and others took a few so nearly all marking is "intercept" marking now, so why use the term. The contested mark does not happen much at all now except for guys like Max King and Harry Mckay et al. And the average for those guys is 2 a game.

What has changed is the 6x6x6 rule which prevents crowding and therefore allows players to take "easier" marks in defence. Players who would not have taken a mark a few years ago now are getting 5/6 marks a game. Even your old favourite Mick Gayfer would be averaging 6/7 marks a game nowadays.
Sam Fisher was a good example but he was an exceptional mark and would have done that in any era. It is what it is but I am not a fan of the term. I just hope Battle keeps clunking them.

The point is that the best intercepting teams are generally the teams sitting up the top of the ladder.

So when recruiting/drafting or picking a side you need to be able to have at least 1 or 2 very good intercepting players.

I honestly don’t get what you are arguing.
