Toast Welcome to St Kilda Jackson Macrae

One of my earliest footy memories was being at the Western Oval wearing my sleeveless Saints jumper (#1 on the back) & a Dogs supporter butted a smoke out on my bare arm.

I was probably 10.
Is t it lovely to reminisce about the good old days, when life was simple? And pure.

See skinny ten year old arm.
Butt cigarette on it.

I probably made the mistake of cheering a Saints goal...

Which was a very rare event in 1983.

I applaud you for making the trip, taking the pain of those years - bless your ten year old St Kilda here! Bless all of us in those years. One thing I’ll say though,- and this maybe just a part of having youthful eyes - we always seemed to compete. We had patches…A Trevor Barker mark, a Jeff Sarai elbow, a Sidebottom mark, etc

One of hardest parts of being an 1980's St.Kilda barracking kid was when Waltzing Matilda was sung at school (which was very often in the 80's) and multiple kids would sing out at the top of their voices;

"Waltzing Matilda, BOOO FOR ST KILDA"

Which cut me to the bone.

Compounding the trauma was that fact that my primary school in the North Eastern suburbs was dominated by Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon and Fitzroy supporters... so the added chorus was sung by 95% of the male population of the school.

Teachers included!

I would be disappointed if we weren’t worse.
Much, much worse ... if anything is left standing in Melbourne after the celebrations, we'll have made a miserable job of it.

I personally think this is the real reason the AFL cannot allow us any favours ... they fear the consequences of our dam wall breaking open :D

I told my wife several years ago, if we manage to jag a flag, wait for about 4 days before you think about reporting me as a missing person to the police.

And be sure to get them to look around the bars and clubs in the CBD for a semi-comatose, incoherent, but joyfully happy guy in Saints colours.

There's also a fair chance I'll think my luck has changed and may be found at the casino, trying to cash in!!

Think Macrae will be good for you guys. Hasn't lost the talent just the coaches favoured speed this year rightly or wrongly.

I think you've strangely got as many players from the 2016 flag as we do on the list which is sad.
Genuinely had me confused when I read this, for a second I forgot that Cordy was on our list and also that he played in your flag haha. That is strange, can’t believe that. 2016 doesn’t seem that long ago for you to have completely turned over your list.

Bye Jacko always a dogs legend. Great teamman and all-time great of the dogs. Bailey Smith however can go and EAD.

Makes me curious;

1) what are Ross the Boss’s private thoughts about the Jack MacCrae acquisition
2) was we asked for an official ‘wink of approval’ ? Ya know, when they say that x department does x, y dept does y, all that BS, we know underneath, Khrushchev puts in a call to Kennedy before the bombs fall..they ‘stage a meeting’ to avert a nuclear war later.
3) does it matter, or how much does it matter if RTB approves in 2024, as it might of in say 2007?

Can’t see anything like this happening without RTB pushing for it or at the very least endorsing it. And the fact the intention is to provide short-term improvement but also supporting long-term development can only suit all department’s interests.

I think we have 3 on the list still now I think about ita bit. JJ, Bont and Libba. Everyone else is gone sadly.

Same here. I went to primary school at St.Agnes in Highett. Lots of sainters, hardly any opposition. This was the early to mid 70s, when our club was still feared and a regular finalist.

I didn't stand a chance, did I? I remember after I'd finished crying when we lost in 1971, my neighbour, a fanatical saint, assured me we'd win another one soon. He said winning a flag was the greatest feeling in the world and I'd be sure to experience many more.

I'm still waiting, of course. I should sue the bastard for breach of promise.

You sure he wasn't a Hawthorn supporter...?
