For sure make umpiring a full time paid gig, but at the moment we’re stuck with this lot, most of them have better jobs then being umps that they wouldn’t walk away from.
on the other hand there is a lot they could do to make umpiring easier, stop changing the rules every 5 minutes, stop sending memos out every week and get rid of the stupid center bounce.

Geez I have quite the opposite view. It’d be like him admitting he got things wrong.
Obviously I don’t know for sure but I reckon he’d hold a grudge too.

I'm already licking my lips for the finals, but we all know the whistles will be put to bed along with all the other shit rules/interpretations.

We got a preview on Sunday when Hewitt arked up with a minute on the clock and up 3 points. The ump shit himself.

No umpire will pay that in a close final.

I’d love to compile every dissenting reaction he ever made and play it back to him the smug campaigner.
In 2011 we played St Kilda at Docklands in round 21 and needed to win to make finals. That was the year Drew was AA and was talking screamers on campaigners heads each week.

We were mounting a come back in the 2nd quarter when Zac Dawson chopped Drew’s arms and then spoiled him around the neck. Razor Ray the piece of shit called play on and we all collectively lost our heads. I think it was the first and only time I’ve smacked a seat at Docklands and chipped it.
Channel 10 had the camera on Brad in the box and it showed him slamming both hands into the window he was losing it at Razor. The current day version is a long way far gone from the man in the box that day.

180 degree turn if I ever saw one.

To be fair that was one of a few games that have been fixed against us.

Any shinboner spirit he may have had was diluted as his weight gain climbed.

Naaahhh. He was never a shinboner.

This is one of the worst rule changes the AFL has ever made. I understood it when they put mics on umps and they'd give a 50M penalty if a player swore because of the kiddies watching at home etc.

But this arm shit. Wanting the players to turn into emotionless robots. Imagine trying to stop that when a game is up for grabs in the dying minutes...impossible.

It is no surprise in today's society though. We need a safe space for umpires and the bullying they get must be taking its toll. The AFL is heading the way of the EPL in regards to umpiring. Soon they won't even respond to criticism because they'll think they are above it all and if they don't acknowledge errors they don't give it airtime.

Soon they'll be getting security guards to eject supporters if they comment on umpiring decisions.

It's not the umpire abuse from players which is turning umpires away from the game, it's the abuse from spectators. Absolutely they should pay a free kick or a 50 against a player who swears at an umpire or abuses him or her in any way. And yes the game has a culture of disrespecting umpires which needs to be addressed. But penalising players for waving their arms will do nothing to stop fans abusing umpires. Next we'll be giving a free to players who say something nice to the maggots.

The shit umpire paradox...

How can they pay 50s when they didn't pay a free? And the 50 would be against the person who was infringed if the free had been paid.

Every time a player appeals for deliberate out of bounds with his arms out - if the umpire doesn't agree that it was deliberate, can the umpire then say the player was pre-emptively dissenting?

Never ever was, actively sought to destroy the spirit anyway

I’d actually go further, free kicks for staging, exaggeration, ducking or leading with the head coupled with a week suspension for first offence, suspension doubles with each subsequent violation by the same player.
