He went 52% by foot which is horrid but based on his off the ball efforts, he ain’t getting dropped.
Surely Bev can’t talk about “connection connection connection” then justify playing a bloke in an offensive position who can’t bloody use the thing then.

Yes our forward connection ****ing sucks, that’s what you get when you have blokes like VDM, Roarke, McComb, McNeil in the main positions expected to deliver the ball inside 50 - then guys like Bont, Libba, Dunks, Macrae who are supposed to be using those guys to deliver the ball, but actively avoiding them because there’s no trust in their ability, choosing to chuck it on the boot instead.

Mind boggling stuff

Dixon unlikely to play and I'd be more than happy for Hinkley to name him out of desperation. It would mean someone like Marshall, Finlayson or Georgiades don't play. Given Dixon is lacking serious match fitness, it would be advantageous to us if he is named at the expense of one of their other tall forwards.

We're also pretty fortunate that our upcoming opponents have long term injuries to their number one ruck. It softens the blow of having our number one ruckman unavailable for another couple of weeks.

Sadly we don’t have a choice mate until the cavalry return. That’s clearly Hunters spot.

Well we do have a choice to be fair. You could bring in Crozier and push one of Williams, Daniel or Dale to the wing. We could use Baz or Treloar there temporarily until players return given our mids are currently wasted forward. You could debut Arthur Jones.

Bevo has decided to play an VFL inside mid with incredibly poor skills on the wing in the AFL side. That's his choice.

Beveridge should be able to spin the magnets though. No coach spins the magnets like Beveridge.

Maybe a switch like Williams onto the wing and Crozier as the direct replacement. We lost nothing in defence (probably actually gain something considering Williams form) and Williams is better in all facets than Mccomb.

If you use the ball like Mccomb without any other real weapons you need to be an inside beast to survive. Think Ben Keays.

I think calling this a choice isn't quite accurate. Your options that make this a 'choice' are:
  • Williams, whose disposal has also been diabolical all season
  • Daniel/Dale, which dismantles the one part of the ground that is functioning well for us this season
  • Jones, who is struggling to get a kick at VFL level.

A large proportion of our list is either out of form, out with injury, or just not AFL standard right now. There are choices, sure, but there are arguments to be made that none of them are any better than what we have.

Moving Dale or Daniel would be robbing Peter to pay Paul. They are our two damaging half backs.

Williams? Not sure he has the confidence right now to be moved to a wing.

Ads and Baz need to remain in the centre.

Only one I’d absolutely consider if need be is Daniel.

First time I’ve posted the selection thread

Out:
McComb - he’s not AFL standard but I applaud the story of him playing
Vandermeer - I honestly though he’d be good with speed and toughness but he’s not very good.
What’s the story with JUH - I thought he’s the least of our problems

In
Crozier - has to play at some point. I’m staggered he was ever dropped
Buku - if not now, when?

I guess we have to consider if we look more dangerous with Williams (WING) & Crozier (BACK) compared to McComb (WING) & Williams (BACK). I'd favour the latter.

I agree that Ads & Baz need to be in the centre but the reality is we had Dunks & Bont spend half of Sunday's game at full forward with Macrae, Ads & Baz all spending significant periods of time at half forward to accommodate the 6 mid set-up.

100% agree with this. We lose more than we gain by playing either of Sweet or Martin. Cordy/Buku is a good enough ruck combo to handle the spud Hayes. Both are more athletic mobile and fit than Martin or Sweet. We don't lose anything in the air either. They make up for the fact that they aren't as tall by the fact that they can actually jump.
Will you sign my petition for club websites to be required the show ruckman heights adjusted for running vertical leap and length of neck variation to average measures?

Jeez harsh on McComb. Turnovers or not, he has a genuine crack and slotted 2 pretty nice goals. If he kicks 2 every week we're laughing.
The snap was, in my opinion, lucky. He got it on the boot quick and it went through. Great.
But he’s slow, is poorly skilled and easily covered.

Watching the VFL highlights I thought JUH looked to have sticky hands taking several contested marks. Straight back in for mine.

Buku looks to have marking/kicking talent. Play him.

No way McComb gets dropped. Any player that resembles Beck’s ‘battling’ playing style gets 2-3 seasons to prove themselves in the firsts.

Joel Garner looked handy in the second half of the VFL - what is his story?

Dixon already confirmed to play in the twos mate. You dont need to worry too much about the ruck either i wouldnt have thought. I expect you lot to win and win pretty well again !!

I'm not sure the MC even view selection this way, but if it's a 50/50 between 2 players at a similar position, pick the player that has " upside ".

We have some players that we know what we are going to get ( which is good in some ways ), but the counter to that is that we know that is all they can ever do..

I would put McNeil in as an example. I like his endevour, but we know his ceiling ( physical and skill wise ) .

A player like Buku, who knows what his celing is ! As a Supporter , that unknown is the exciting part of watching the younger guys go about it.. JUH, Bedendo ( who I think will be a 200 Gamer ) and even a lesser extent Arthur Jones is in this category also..

Why the MC sometimes stick with honest toilers over a guy with a larger upside sometimes baffles me..

I know you play to win, but a different MC with a ballsier approach would make that choice every time.

I'm very much the same. Really don't mind either in the side now. Roarkes improved a lot but still prone to the odd fu** up and Scott is quite a tidy player.
Scott’s been good this year I feel, I still don’t rate Roarke very highly tbh, he was good on the weekend but Essendon’s pressure is genuinely terrible. I wouldn’t want either going into a finals game for to be honest but if the alternatives are McNeil/McComb roaming the wings then ****in sign me up for the Roarke/Scott combo for the rest of the year 😂
