It's all the wife's idea - I'm merely the supportive spouse! I believe in these modern deeply troubled times that there's a place for supportive spouses at Tea Cosy festivals.

Hope Dan makes it back - very good player who has been cruelled by injury. His grandfather Barney wouldn't have been a fan of today's concussion protocols. One day in the ammos Dan's uncle was KO'd and stretchered off. Barney made sure the stretcher bearers went through the interchange so he could come back on.

Yep. Seems to have worked for him.

But I think he was less successful with Ben Reid. Possibly hadn't encountered friable soft tissue before. A Reid family invention.

I had to look up friable. I was thinking what's she talking about - last night I pan-fried a steak that had a seam of friable soft tissue running through it.

Greece doesn't get cold enough to dress teapots in woollen knitted jumpers. However, I don't think anywhere gets cold enough for such demeaning behaviour.

My son played junior AFL for Easts in Sydney

The team had won 3 premierships and often won games by 200 points +

I was goal umpire one week when a similar thrashing was dished out to an Inner West team

One of the Inner West kids kicked their first 'goal' but it was touched off the boot (a slap on leather akin to a Berlin S&M bar)

One Oppo parent came down to aggressively remonstrate, clearly in breach of some nanny law about not having a crack at bored, volunteer officials

'Come on! Ohh come on! It was a goal!' No it was touched. 'Well you could've given it, you're miserable, it won't matter to your mob!'

The Oppo parent was Anthony Albanese

After sideswipe is shot, Albo is coming for me

Nice. I did tell players late in a few games that were blowouts that “I will pay hovers if you get up high”.

Ammo reserve umpiring (each team supplied one) had the added attraction of reciprocal cheating. One ump from another club was a well known cheat. So you would then take it on yourself to even up.
