Obviously we can’t get carried away with a 3 goal performance but it does show give a young player responsibility and opportunity and you will often be rewarded.
Personally I wouldn’t bring Tex back next week - run with the same forward line. Hopefully Fog gained some confidence from today and can back up with an even better performance next week

... which begs the question why he was loose in the first place? You probably don't want to go there.

De Koning & Stewart absolutely towelled our tall forwards.

I did like the mark that Fog took when he led hard, and the pack disappeared around him. That level of intensity has been missing from his game for a long time, and it was very pleasing to see it back again.

Geelong always like to play a loose defender. Imo we needed a 3rd tall forward.

Mixed bag. I thought his intensity was better, and this time he was rewarded with 3 goals.

Mind you, he started on -1 goal, having given away a free kick (unrealistic marking attempt) in the opening minutes - with the ball having gone through for a goal, which wasn't paid due to his mistake.

I'd also point out that Fogarty's direct opponent (De Koning) should be on the receiving end of Brownlow votes, so even this much improved performance from Fogarty didn't result in him winning his position.

Overall though, I thought it was the best game he's played in a long time. Easily his best game of the year, and arguably his best game since his famous 2019 5-goal game against the Weagles.
SDK was on Thilthorpe and the -1 goal would have been touched if Fog didn't go for the mark.

West Coast at home this week. We should win and have decent control in the midfield. An opportunity to set Fog up as the number one forward with a 4-5 goal bag

No doubt our selection committee will panic

I expect anyone over the age of 23 to get a game, but still hopeful they can kick to a leading forward

We're easy pickings for players like Tom Stewart.

Good players can hit up short 20m passes, more direct 35-45m kicks to the forward's advantage, penetrating 55+m kicks to a contest. They also have a kicking range where they can direct the ball to the left pocket, right pocket or anywhere in between.

Very difficult for defenders to read where the ball is going.

Most of our players though lob up 40m (their maximum distance) pitching wedges in the exact direction you'd expect it to go.

The chalk and cheese look of our forward attacks when Dawson gets the ball compared to everyone else is glaring. At Sydney Dawson was just a decent player among other decent or better players. Here he is in another stratosphere.

Nix is on record as wanting predictable and consistent entries. That way we’ve got the best chance of getting players there to force a stoppage.

He was loose because of our shit game plan where we push most of our forwards up the ground/around the contest, leaving our forwards 1v2 or 2v3.

Hence our hack kick forward or kick around the corner, usually ends in an opposition mark.
I watched very little of the game, in fact I’ve seen little out of the 3 of the last 4 games, it’s been quite refreshing. But what you’ve described against Geelong is perhaps the dumbest coaching I’ve ever heard of. That’s one thing you don’t do against Geelong is free up their defenders.

It’s also shows a complete lack of trust in our players to win the contest, why the **** did we bring back Crouch for? That what he was supposed to be strong at.

Please tell me at some stage they worked it out and made the change.

But this is just another example of some coaches making shit decisions. Just because they are coaches doesn’t mean they don’t make dumb decisions and that’s why cheerleaders who like to back the club in no matter what have no place in commentating on football, use your brain and call out stupidity when you see it.

The sad thing is I don't think I'll ever know whether this kid is the wrong fit for modern footy, or just the wrong fit for the Adelaide football Club between 2018-2022.

Imagine if he played in a team that actually honours lead up forwards for the last 5 seasons. He'd probably be a 50 goal forward by now.

What could have been

Imagine if Tex had.

For anyone with a clue about football that's been watching him in the SANFL this year and watching his training over the past two years, you can see that he is putting in the hard yards to do what is needed to become a good forward. You can see he was sent back to work on second and repeat efforts and staying in the contest. About spending energy to the max in the moments that count and not wasting a dime when you don't need to.

For those that don't have goldfish memories this is actually what tex had to do to become a good forward as well.

The difference between average and very good is a lot of little things. He's had some to work on, still got some more. Some of it was about how his team mates hit him up too. Watching SANFL you can see they changed the way they did it over several weeks. Couldn't see it last week but this week we could see it very clearly in the AFL too.

Far from being a guaranteed good forward at the moment but approaching the lower limit of being able to be a serviceable ten year player. If he comes up to sit comfortably in the serviceable level I can live with that. He will be the Jenkins of Jenkins and Tex with Tilthorpe being the Tex.

All that said, he would go a lot better in a team that sets up an open forward line. Offers to go to clubs like that must be mighty tempting.

Watched him live yesterday. Easily our best taller forward prospect currently.
Can't let him go now.

He is our most natural tall forward aside from Tex. I think yesterday’s game gave us some answers - if forward entries are to Fog’s advantage then he can bring the goals. I think he is also linking up better coming up the field. Encouraging signs, but just need now to chain a few good games together, both for his sake as well as the team’s sake.
