"Melksham punched a bloke but it's basically ok because the bloke was being a dickhead" was, while very funny, not really something that can reasonably expected to be ticked off by others.

Gawn only last month going public about how the Demons dressing room decided they needed to stop tearing down people just as a laugh also makes this very funny

Not the first time May has copped a crack to the Jaw, just ask Campbell Brown! 👊

Apparently the optics weren’t sufficiently positive for HQ’s egos so now they’re sending in the micromanagers so they can make it into a big mess and carry the story into next week :rolleyesv1:

I suppose they’ll suspend Melksham now (potentially concurrently with the surgery he has to have on his hand anyway). Intentional striking with high contact if it happened on the footy field is always a suspension, impact determines the number of weeks…

I wonder if anyone has ever been suspended for punching their own teammate? If the answer is yes then I'm willing to bet that Mark "Jacko" Jackson was involved somehow.

Surely punching Steven May provides a discount to the weeks offered though?

I don't have a legal background, but I think there is a rider in most contracts that allows you to punch a guy that has tried to punch you twice.

We say violence isn't the answer as though there is always an alternative.

Proportionate violence is the answer in certain circumstances.

May sits in meetings at which respect and not running people down are demanded. Almost the first opportunity he gets he runs his mouth and humiliates teammates in front of mutual teammates.

May plays by a different set of rules. He's the school yard bully among pacifists, he challanges people in a way that demands a response that is no longer allowed, that's unfair, an exploitation of the social convention. No amount of being told off by the teacher is going do anything for May and it won't help Melksham.

May is clearly not going to listen to more words and so he got what he deserved.

Edit: workplaces are full of people who make life for colleagues unbearable. In my experience they are never challenged directly (which I'm not saying should or has to be physical) and they don't care about the rules everyone else plays by, they live in the grey of the system.

You want Melksham to run to dob on May or give him the clip he deserves?

May is clearly not going to listen to more words.

Then the Dmons should suspend him for not following club culture or whatever.

Mrlksham hitting him is not going to stop May talking either.

Agree with that but Melksham's only actually recourse is there and then.

How does it help him to run and dob on May because his feelings are hurt?

Kinda sounds like May experienced the pheonomenom of 'talk shit, get hit'. I'm sure this isn't the first time they've gone out boozing and he's been a ****wit and someone finally got fed up with it where most of them probably fake laugh along with him so they don't catch strays, I'm sure we've all been around people like this when they drink and they're completely insufferable.

When she was 18 months old (24 years today!) my daughter fell off the sofa and was concussed. Was unconscious for one of the longest minutes of my life. Rushed her to hospital where she was under observation for the next 12 hours - was perfectly fine. The neurologist who examined her said, on admission, that we had brought her in too soon. That kids with concussion normally presented when they complain about double vision, or vomit or stagger or sleep.

To apply that medical opinion to the Port players, it was too soon to apply the protocols and by the time the players might have shown those symptoms the game would have been over. On this reasoning it may be that the players were no more unsafe playing in the last 5 minutes of the game than if they were off the field, assuming neither were showing any signs of concussion.

Statements statement statements

I don’t understand how the dogs aren’t copping more heat by the media. They should be challenging for the flag but they won’t make the 8.
They won with a young side in 2016 (like us in 93, hawks in 08) then those sides became dominant 5-6 years later. They look like wasting one of the best midfields in the AFL.

Different code and a bygone era, but good for a laff...

from wikipedia:

In April 2005, Bowyer was in the media spotlight again after an on-pitch brawl with teammate Kieron Dyer. This resulted in a red card, plus an automatic 3 game ban, for each player. The Football Association fined Bowyer £30,000 and imposed an additional 3 game ban, and the club fined him 6 weeks' wages. Dyer was not fined as Bowyer threw the first punch.

In addition, Bowyer was charged by Northumbria Police in connection with the brawl with offences under section four of the Public Order Act. He pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of using threatening behaviour and was fined £600 and ordered to pay £1000 costs.

Campbell Brown once tried to belt some sense into a mouthy young Steven May up on the Gold Coast.
But he went a little overboard, broke May's jaw and was terminated. :$

If Beveridge was the mastermind everyone seems to think he is they'd have been top 4 2020 to 2022.

For all the talent at his disposal he's never made the top 4. They dont get anything from what ever they play that passes for a system which is why they fall in heap when the talent is off.

I couldn't handle him as a coach. Trengove and Young can't get games as badly needed key defenders but those duds Cordy and Gardner can.

Bleeding contests in the ruck.

That phase of 6 changes a week when they dont have a soldiers in and out system.

The only part of their game that consistently 'works' is midfield outnumbering and over possession.
