Really surprised at the Jonas criticism. I'm not his biggest fan but I thought he did his role admirably on Sunday. Cut Chol out of the game in the second half.

Yeah he made a dumb call late (which I also criticised)

But he is seemingly a victim of trying to cover for team mates, getting found lacking for pace, and then getting blamed for that player being too quick for him. It's not his job to run down Isaac Rankine for goodness sake - where was Frederick or Burton or Houston?

Obscure?! That 1992 Euro was awesome!

Denmark had failed to qualify. Yugoslavia did, but right before the tournament the country ceased to exist. Thus, one spot opened.

The Danes were invited as wild card. Then, against all odds, they went to win the whole damn thing. [In Swedish soil, to boot!]

There was a good movie on sbs re this recently. From memory they had to recall an old school coach from retirement as the number one coach had prior commitments, and several star players initially refused to play under him.

It was good to win a close game for a change. As much as we tried to hand over the win in the last. We really made alot of mistakes in the last qtr, boak/ amon missing goals, jones/ georgi streaming into an open 50 but leaving the ball behind, out of bounds on the fall against duursma etc etc. but we kept chasing and tackling and fighting it out and fortune favors the brave and the Suns are a decent team this year.
I thought Marshall was quiet and well held, he struggled to get any separation from his quality opponent and got a bit of a knock from duursma. But his skills are so good he only needs 6 possies to cut you up.
Georgi almost had a break out game. His first half was very good but went missing in the second half and his opponent cut him up running the other way. I notice Georgi gets a real rush of blood when he gets a few touches close to goals, he reminds me an over excited dog who has been let off the leash down the beach. In the 3rd qtr Marshall had his name written all over one and Georgi jumped in from the side and spoilt him when he should have stayed down, but he is young and still learning.
Rozzee was excellent in the second half and I thought Dixon swinging into ruck won us the game. I personally think Dixon shouldnt be playing unless he can do alot of ruck work and can cover the ground a bit better. But that was his best game for the season and I like him playing further up the ground away from goal.
Duursma is really struggling. I have watched him in the sanfl and he is sadly out of form, but it was good to see him get a run and I am sure his confidence and form will build. People shouldnt underestimate how serious those concussions are, he has probably been told by his doctor that another 1 or 2 serious concussions and he should hang his boots up.
I dont mind Frederick. At least he is genuinely fast and athletic to stay with the zippy small forwards and should be persisted with. It takes young players time.
I have been critical of Jones but he had his best game for the club.
SPP will go close to club champ this year, very consistent performer now.
Not sure about Amon. Had plenty of the ball but burnt it.
I didnt mind Jonas's game either.

Drew had two teammates right there, Boak and Amon.

Piss off!

Shit, I would have thought it was a demonstration of the exact reason not to!

I agree somewhat, some of his 'one percenters' recently have been outstanding

Have noticed he really is acting as the backline marshall, actively pointing and verbally directing other players where to kick and position themselves

Our backs are generally pretty strong, but it's the transition out of the backline that sometimes lacks

This is where my critcism lays with Jonas

Either he's following set plans that aren't that great or he's just making some dumb decisions directing others

If you break the game down, between the 2nd and 4th quarters we kicked 2.8 to 6.8, a bit of work to be done there.
The 1st and 3rd quarters we kicked 11.7 combined to 7.5

The second quarter dominance by them imo was due to the failure to play a recognised ruckman.

Only if we had 200cm ruckman in the SANFL
I was calling for Hayes to get a game for the last 2 years. He got his chance, but to be honest a ruckman needs to do more than ruck. Apart from ruck work Hayes showed absolutely nothing else. I am now doubting he has what it takes. Could well be a wasted 5 years.

don't think it should have been paid but honestly with the way they are paying deliberate out of bounds or insufficient attempt free kicks these days they may as well just make it last disposal out of bounds free-kick. picking and choosing which one's aren't freekicks is completely inconsistent with just about every ruling in this dumb sport.

If it were about sport and fairness then they would, but it's about clicks and views.

The more 'grey areas' to argue about, the more income.

It is an awful way of going about it and short termist, but that's the AFL for you.

Funny thing is for all Witts's dominance in ruck, we won clearances 43-42 and centre clearances 16-13.

Finlayson won 5 clearances by hunting the ball after he lost the tap.

It still made for frustrating viewing, especially when Witts got hold of us in the second quarter and started walking the ball out of contests.

Need to play a ruckman. In that second quarter I would have smuggled Visentini onto the ground. Yes his name is is Sam Mayesentini.

Finlayson has the silky skills to play on ball though. He would have been a weapon in the old third man up days.

That was luck more than judgement with Witts though.

Don’t mind Fredrick and not sure about Amon. 😂😂😂. Fredrick is not at an AFL standard player. Depth player maybe. Amon is miles ahead.

Jonas tries hard but he's very slow. Chol kicked 3 goals and was two score reviews away from another couple. Hardly cut out of the game.

Imagine if this actually mattered.

He's too slow and too stupid to make up for it in other ways.

Perfect example was when Rankine ran through him like he wasn't there - Q3, half forward flank south western side. If you're smart you realise that Rankine is running so fast that he's probably going to break your tackle so you just deck him and give away the free kick to hold up play. But no, a weak effort at the tackle and Rankine runs on to set up another easy goal.

He's a liability.

Wasn't it? Infuriating. At least use the full allotted time and see if someone is free ahead of the ball, then sideways and as a last resort, backwards. Otherwise you're just asking to be hemmed in, then kicking down the line to the wing.
Sure they train to retain the ball until told to play on.. bar for some luck we should have ****ed it up and gives me absolutely no confidence for next time

Finlayson was holding his own in the first quarter until Witts said 'enough of this s**t' and put a knee into him at a centre bounce. After that, Finlayson didn't want to really go near him. Around the ground it was a slaughter but that was always going to be the case.

Robbing Dixon out of the forward line meant that the Suns didn't have to worry about him and could put more pressure on Marshall and Georgiades and run the ball down the ground. It was robbing Peter to pay Paul but it had to be done - it then became a shootout.

All that I left the game thinking was that we really need Lycett back.

If Hinkley is not going to play Hayes, then yes.
