Not looking at possession numbers, he was good in the tough going, putting his body in and doing grunt work/1 percenters. A game in such conditions is not all about possessions, you know.
I’m sorry but IMO he’s an average WAFL player, who gets to train as an elite AFL player. I can think of maybe 30 WAFL players who I would rate better than him.
If those players were given the same opportunities to train as a professional footballer, I’m sure they would be easily better than Nelson.
I can’t wait until I don’t see his name on the WC list and I don’t really give a **** if he’s a great clubman or not.

Starting to get some hope that Xon is gonna make it, was awesome in the Collingwood win. And he seems to building nicely in the Wafl. Way more upside than West and Clark IMO, should be prioritised over Redden now too.
What i like about XON in the middle is he is quick enough on the spread to either find a team mate by hand or straighten up and kick a drop punt not snapping it around the corner .

He is also a very good tackler with leg speed to apply defensive pressure.

He was great in our win over Collingwood when he played on - ball .

Give him a go in the guts now he is back from injury and has nic to palm it to him .

Yes, everyone knows that smaller players take longer to mature than talls. He should start showing something in another 3 years or so.

XON's time at the club since being drafted has coincided with us going all in for another flag (with limited opportunities for kids) and covid. Hardly the best for development. He's been unlucky to cop a serious injury this year just when he had the chance to cement a spot. Still 21... may yet develop into a very good midfielder. Hope he gets a good run at it now to see what we've got.

Over the years we’ve had a number of players that have sat in that twilight zone of being too good for WAFL but just not quite good enough for AFL

The first player I personally recognised it in was Josh Wooden who was found out in the AFL because he had a split second less to make a decision which found him out

Partington was another who comes to mind, although I don’t think he was ever given sufficient opportunity to see if he could adjust to the increased tempo

Currently we have Waterman sitting there, perhaps even Rotham

O’Neill is in genuine danger of being another so he needs a solid block of games to settle without fearing a couple of mistakes will get him demoted

He’s only played 18 games and never more than 5 in succession (his first 5 games in 2020)

Since then he hasn’t played more than 2 in a row

Bullshit.
Josh Wooden has just as many seconds as he needs.

Honestly, the disrespect shown deserves a mob with torch and pitchforks level of response.

Oh, he is no world-beater, and I agree with you - there are many others who if given the same opportunity would do as equally well. But in saying that he is reasonable depth.

A determination on XON is critical to our drafting/trading plans and strategy this, and probably next, year.

If he’s ‘got it’ then a extra mid May not be a priority - if he hasn’t then we will need that extra mid.

If MC don’t use the dead rubber part of the year to give him an extended run then I will call ‘opportunity lost’

I appreciated Trew seemingly getting an extended run in the guts last week - the same opportunity needs to be ‘given’ to XON for the balance of year.

Petro was running around in the midfield like a chook with his head cut off. Out with a hammie.

XON should get an opportunity.

Petch had contributed yesterday and doesn’t deserve the slinging coming his way.

XON should be given an opportunity but it’s hardly at Petch’s expense.

May have been discussed before so apologies if it has, but could Witherdan be turned into a forward like Nikoski became? or would his lack of defensive capabilities be a liability in that role.

IMO it’s impossible to expect to see the best from Witherden until the rest of the side is functioning properly. He’s the type of player who needs a well oiled machine around him to make the most of his strengths, and whose weaknesses are most glaring when the side is dysfunctional.

Similar to Rotham I would like to see both play in a different coaching setup before putting them on the chopping block.
