Tom Browne has reported on Triple M Footy this afternoon that Rory Lobb has informed Fremantle that he'll request a trade.

“It’s my understanding from speaking to a club over the weekend, they’re of the opinion that Rory Lobb has informed Fremantle of his decision to seek a trade at the end of the year,” he said.

Browne believes that the Western Bulldogs are in the box seat to land the 29 year-old's services.
TB's stock in trade. He may well be right, but he may also have NFI, and throws those non-commital words around like confetti.

Not sure what the first bit even means - he's spoken to another club (us?) who are of the opinion Lobb will seek a trade. Did he speak to Sam Power? Or did he just stand outside VUWO and ask the remnants of the Whitten Stand what it thought?

Don’t really want to lose either but to make room in cap I’d see Hunter gone (scared when he was one of very few true wingman not long back in the league) and Dunks.
Dunks if he agrees to Pies (Ads might veto that) as they need an inside mid. Then get Grundy From Pies and top up trade depending how much salary we pay. Then chase Logue.
I know Timmy is improving in the ruck but a 50/50 split with Grundy would be amazing. Both can take a grab forward. Prefer that to Lobb scenario but you can’t have everything u want I guess.
Get those 2 and we free up a bit of cap via Schache and/or Cordy to top West up a bit

Haha. We're not getting Grundy.

Dunkley also likely to stay

Pies wouldn't be doing a Treloar with a Grundy top-up if he's traded. Not sure the SA clubs would be taking on such a massive salary either, even if Pies contribute.
I know it's strongly rumoured Pies are willing to trade him (he has 5 years left on his substantial contract), and the Age reported a few days ago GWS are interested (Jason Macartney about to overpay perhaps?).

I also don't think Grundy complements English at all, rather would stifle him. Lobb is a better fir.

Could be getting the info from Colin Young

“Let’s stop beating around the bush, Rory Lobb has got a four-year deal at the Western Bulldogs,” Hagdorn said on SEN WA’s Drive.

I reckon crozier is the other fan favourite on the chopping block
Agree. He signed his contract extension in March 2020 (going to end of 2023) after back-to-back top-10 B&F finishes in 2018 and 2019 so is presumably on decent coin. The freed up salary space for a year is probably more valuable than what he gives us as backup given the development of Buku and Cleary.

The alternative is we give him an extension until the end of 2024 and spread his 2023 salary plus say $100k over the 2 years which he might see as more attractive than just his 2023 contract and the risk of being delisted with no takers in 12 months time.

Not sure if anyone else noticed this but Bevo in the rooms on Saturday night was congratulating the boys on the far wall one by one. Got to Hunter and didn't give him the time of day. I understand not congratulating a player who didn't play but the manner at which he didn't acknowledge his presence, turned around and walked away was unsettling. It was cold. You could see the disappointment in Hunter face too.

I’d hope that’s not the case. Where can we view this?

Rory Lobb is the intercepting defender we’ve been dreaming of.

Yeah, Nah. You saw a circle and are saying it's a square.
Just guesswork and speculation.
What exactly does Bevo need to congratulate him for? A tip in the 3rd at Sandown

Much more excited that Logue and Hamling on the move. Those two would make us stronger where we are weak.

Also their second ruckman - Lloyd Meek has talent but doesn’t have great stats.

Weightman Bruce JUH

García/JJ Naughton West

With Darcy on rotation as a ruck forward - he shows more each game in the 2’s and a full preseason and look out.

Lobb next year would be better of course but we don’t have unlimited petrol to get what we want and I wouldn’t use it on area that we are good and getting better.

Also like McNeil’s effort and speed - he is not far off and VDM will be back.

Sure - Lobb would better than Schache (haven’t given up on him but think he should be a defender as coverage for Keath) but he isn’t even playing - who gets kicked out of the starting line up?

In defence it is an different story - Gardner who is developing well - occasional bad game but his trajectory is definitely upwards and will keep playing until Keath goes down. Which may be sooner than we hope.

So for trade is we got Logue and Hamling it would make a fair difference to our defence. Both are top 22 players. But still these guys anew good solid players not stars.

Also need backup for Duryea as a mature hard nosed defender.

Dale Logue Daniel/Richards

Hamling Keath Duryea

Khamis to eventually take Hamling’s role. But can play a couple of roles.

Gardner, TOB and Schache as solid back up.

Recruiting:

And recruit Buslinger or Hayes who will replace Keath or the above in a couple of years.

Forgot Cleary - also great potential but also not a KPD but can play on mediums and smalls at 190cm

Raak and Parker both 193 are also Third defenders not KPDs. Even though Logue is only 194 - he is a big unit at close to 100kgs

why bother with lobb when we've got darcy there?

he hasnt played any time in the AFL back at all? He's basically a forward that pinch hits in the ruck.

if we lose someone like dunkley and get someone like an overpriced lobb, that would be a disaster.

If we wanted a stop gap forward option I'd attempt to pry Charlie Dixon instead of Lobb.

He's older so we don't have to offer a ridiculous 4 year deal and if Darcy is ready and we want to play him instead its not as if we will have 500k sitting in the 2s for several seasons.

Lobb at 3/4years makes no sense. Lobb makes sense for a bunch of other clubs like St Kilda/Melb even Richmond if Riewoldt is done.

I'm not complaining about his talent mind you. But the contract size and his age puts a massive roadblock on Darcy's development who should be prioritised. Our KPF stocks are going to be much better next year with a full pre-season for Darcy, Jamarra confident and comfortable at AFL level and Bruce a pre-season to get back from his knee.
