Much more excited that Logue and Hamling on the move. Those two would make us stronger where we are weak.

Also their second ruckman - Lloyd Meek has talent but doesn’t have great stats.

Weightman Bruce JUH

García/JJ Naughton West

With Darcy on rotation as a ruck forward - he shows more each game in the 2’s and a full preseason and look out.

Lobb next year would be better of course but we don’t have unlimited petrol to get what we want and I wouldn’t use it on area that we are good and getting better.

Also like McNeil’s effort and speed - he is not far off and VDM will be back.

Sure - Lobb would better than Schache (haven’t given up on him but think he should be a defender as coverage for Keath) but he isn’t even playing - who gets kicked out of the starting line up?

In defence it is an different story - Gardner who is developing well - occasional bad game but his trajectory is definitely upwards and will keep playing until Keath goes down. Which may be sooner than we hope.

So for trade is we got Logue and Hamling it would make a fair difference to our defence. Both are top 22 players. But still these guys anew good solid players not stars.

Also need backup for Duryea as a mature hard nosed defender.

Dale Logue Daniel/Richards

Hamling Keath Duryea

Khamis to eventually take Hamling’s role. But can play a couple of roles.

Gardner, TOB and Schache as solid back up.

Recruiting:

And recruit Buslinger or Hayes who will replace Keath or the above in a couple of years.

Hamling is cooked injuries have got him.

Is Sam Taylor from the giants contracted? Would he be worth a look?

I think we want Lobb (if the rumour is actually true) because we want to win now...not just in 3 years' time when Darcy is likely to be at Lobb's current standard. People are expecting way too much from Darcy, as he will probably need two to four seasons to really make a big enough impact. Lobb fills the gap until Darcy is able to consistently play seniors at a high level.

I really don’t think Darcy will need that long. He went from a speculated late-pick to consensus early first rounder in a handful of games and has performed very well in the VFL. His rate of improvement is very impressive.

I think his rate of improvement and durability to hold down a key post are different arguments though, right?

No doubt he’s talented. The query is on whether his quickly growing and evolving body can handle 27 rounds of AFL level football, which it probably can’t. He’s 207cm and 85kg and still growing at a rapid rate.

Having Lobb means we’re covered for the now regardless of how much Sam plays.

He’s done well to shed 9kg despite growing 2cm since start of season measurements :) but I take your point.

Didn’t Darcy have stress fractures? Probably want him in cotton wool for a couple years to recover, especially as he is still growing. Lobb will take a lot of pressure off playing Darcy. Similar to JUH last year. Pressure wasn’t huge because our tall forwards were fine. Contrast that with a JHF situation at North where he’s almost expected to be a leader in year 1.

How long is TOB contracted for? That’s a wasted spot.

Lobb sporting Tim English locks. Rumour confirmed.

Part of Bevo's cunning plan. Next year no one will be able to tell them apart.

Gawn won't know if he's supposed to man up on Tim English or Eminem.

And those Ch7 commentators' heads will explode! Tipping it now, BT, Healy and Russell will repeatedly say Tim Lobb or Rory English. Or Rory Naughton.
And when one of them refers to Jamarra Lobb, you'll know they've really lost the plot!

Foot fractures, took around 6-7 months for him to fully recover

If we could land Lobb and Logue that’d be huge.

Gives Darcy a runway to build up instead of needing to be ready next year.

Would be chasing Jones as well. Free shot with big upside.

If we could go into next year with logue and Jones + keath and Gardner we finally have a bit of depth.

A backline next season of:

Jones Logue Duryea
Richards Gardner Dale

Caleb floating in.

Keath and O’Brien depth.

Ideally we transition Keath into a floating/interceptor (ala Lever). He was recruited as such but forced to become a KPD. Say we got Logue and even Jones, it would allow Alex to slim down a bit (which you would think helps his soft tissue problems) and not be asked to take the #1 or even #2 forward each week.

Gee if we get Lobb, do you trail Bruce at Full Back during the offseason?
I would unless we get a Logue type. I can't see any conceivable way that we can fit Naughton, Lobb, JUH & Bruce into the one forward line. I really want to play Jamarra so it basically comes down to Lobb & Bruce for the ruck-forward role.

I know injuries happen but that's not even taking into consideration Darcy who can develop and back-up behind those guys.
