You can’t give 5 to a key back when the team lost and they have up 110 points. I don’t think Goodwin did, maybe a mix between the two, but he wasn’t that great to demand a 4 or 5 in my opinion.
100% Bevo would have given votes to Gardner & Adzy, whereas Goodwin would have given May 4 I reckon

Best thing was Marra splitting the middle of the sticks perfectly every time, where’s that been? He’s such a good kick for goal, probably just fatigue has been holding back that part of the game. Will be so nice having a key forward who just goes back and kicks em (like when you watch Curnow or JK against us)

That long bomb was no fluke either, he’s done that a few times now - most memorable being in the 2s last year reasonably early, rolled around on his left and set sail from 60 out and cleared the line by about 10m.

He’s going to kick a lot of long bombs on the run, like someone else maybe???

From my eye watching from home he just looked more comfortable out there. Was smiling etc and not beating himself up whenever he dropped a mark. It looked as if it was fun and not stressful for him. He's looked a bit worried going for goal before in the past

Coaches votes
8 Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (WB)
8 Marcus Bontempelli (WB)
5 Steven May (MELB)
4 Adam Treloar (WB)
2 Ryan Gardner (WB)
2 Clayton Oliver (MELB)
1 Ed Richards (WB)

My guess:
Bevo
5 Bont
4 JUH
3 Treloar
2 Gardner
1 Richards

Other guy
5 May
4 JUH
3 Bont
2 Oliver
1 Treloar
I think May should have gotten a 3 and a 2. He played very well and deserved more than a single vote from both coaches.
The Gardner votes are the anomaly. If that game was worth votes, then Josh Bruce must have only just missed out.;)

I notice he seems to smile a lot but I think it’s more of a grimace, a lip stretch. Chris Judd used to do it as well.

After watching the game again (twice 😁), two things from me:

Jacko - 4 touches deep into the 2nd quarter, then 8 in 7 minutes. In that time, we cut their lead in half. How is it possible that he's still underrated?

Riley Garcia - yes, it was Marra's breakout game, but this bloke took an enormous step forward. His first goal was a great snap, but his second was clear evidence of his growing self confidence.
He now believes he's a senior player.

His last quarter goal was elite finishing, on the run at that angle under the pressure of the game. Thought he was very good and a real asset.

I think a few others have said similar in this or other threads, but the emergence of West and Garcia as potential best 22 fixtures, alongside Red’s growth in the backline, have been real positives this year. JUH kicking on significantly, Darcy looking good too even though it’s really early.

We’ll likely rue not getting a win or two out of games like blues, tigers, crows, port but hopefully holes are being filled in best 22 for next year. Get a functional KPD and another ruck (or forward/ruck like Lobb) and the list is taking shape.

How was he kept so quiet in the first half?

Ed Richards reactions even before he jumped on Marra. How good has his year (and his game Saturday night) been?

Has it....? He couldn't have!

It's kinda incredible just how rarely infringements on Naughton actually get paid, the AFL media were absolutely taking the piss when Beveridge called out the umpires not protecting Naughton and they just pretended that everything Collins did was fair.

Good to see the gold coast kick up a stink about it then do the exact same thing in the media with Rankine and how he was treated by Starcevich this weekend just gone.

Maybe they have realised that certain players get shoved, held off the ball and opponents who like to block and grab don't get penalised.
