The reason is conceptually, the AFL need people to be able to distinguish between teams easily. Their colours and design of the jumpers are paramount in this. This applies more to people who the AFL want to attract. Both new sponsors and new supporters.

this is incredibly sad. this is exactly how the VFL wants the australian public to think and obviously it worked incredibly well on collingwood fans, all they do is parrot crap the executives want us to think, they don't realise they are test dummies, you're like a science experiment, your mind has been turned to mush and you think you're being a "good footy fan" for it!

i have always known this to be the 'issue'. it's simply that the league likes our comp to be dumbed down and amateur, easily digestible for the lowest common denominator. they like it being big and bold and basic, like a childrens coloring book. see, over there is the perth eagles! yellow and blue! we wanted them in easy-to-understand state colors for all you idiots to easily follow, but we had to make it navy blue - still close! and over there is sydney! another bird, the swan! red and white! and then over there, ANOTHER bird! adelaide, the crows! these are our bird franchises! see, if you're a good little boy from sydney, you grow up loving footy, you support the swans! and if you're a good little boy from adelaide, you love footy and need a team, why, you support the crows! we made them up for you, in easy to follow state colors! the suns, yay! i love summer and i'm from queensland, thanks AFL for making a simple, easy to understand franchise for me to follow!

the Coll and Port brands are extremely different anyway, I think people have addressed this over the last few pages. our guernsey looks far better than yours, it's a completely different design. if you go back to your traditional guernsey (you changed from in 2000) it won't even clash with the prison bars at all (but still our clubs should wear third kits against each other if it came to that). our logo is very different to yours, I mean we operate in a completely different state, there actually isn't much room for confusion at all, even though you've been conditioned into believing there is.

and yes, your paranoia is right. give us an inch and we'll take a mile. we should be wearing the PBs in the AFL and your brand won't suffer as a result - collingwood players and executives damage your clubs brand plenty and we don't damage it at all, that's why we'll keep fighting for it, because there still isn't any reason why we shouldn't

Seriously?

This is the logo which is most closely associated with the Port Adelaide prison bar jumper (it even appeared on the jumper as a patch until 1 or 2 years ago).

It is a direct copy of the classic Collingwood logo used first in the 1960s.

Seriously?

no wonder you have only posted 5000 times in 20 years, you must get embarrassed every time someone quotes you

You know that Port had a 'magpie on a fence' logo in the 60s as well, don't you?

The one above was part of a SANFL rebrand done in '75 or thereabouts that had all clubs moving to the roundel device with their nickname in it. It appeared on our guernseys from then on.

Not everything originates in Victoria.

i know he was just trolling by deliberately posting 2 logos from 80 years ago when nobody was talking about that, they've just further proven they are mindless drones who don't think for themselves but parrot the leagues PR talk

What "Major" change? You think changing the number size on the back, whether the numbers are in black or in white, or adding a club logo, or adding an AFL logo are major changes? Or changing the cut of the jumper, or even removing the lace-up constitutes a change to the guernsy?

No point discussing this with you any more.

Thanks.
I don't know if it's insecurity or stupidity but I suspect it's both.

Never.
That guernsey is a PA guernsy, with the PA logo and year of creation on it.

Should I organise a refund of the Port membership you inadvertently purchased thinking you were, in fact, purchasing a Collingwood membership?

Couple times a year against the crows, that's all we are asking for and that's all it needs to be. I don't think this is about Collingwood giving an inch and us taking a mile. I think we've all come to terms with the fact that we will never see the prison bars in the AFL as our main jumper. If they just allowed for it in showdowns (which is not dissimilar to the agreement drawn up in 2007) we could all move on, i suspect the board would be very happy with an inch and for the issue to go away. As fans we would love to see it full time but we most of us are aware that isn't realistic.

Oh, and when you get back from the pub, let's continue playing your game.
What year did PA wear this jumper?

(Hint-- It was in a premiership year)
Are these the jumpers Collingwood loaned us out of a sense of fraternity between clubs because we were struggling financially after the Second World War?

Sad what’s happened in the years since then.

Actually, yes it was. That one was for the Australian Bi-Centenary year.
And i absolutely agree about what has happened recently between our clubs.

I actually respect your club more than any other AFL club. In fact, i think our clubs are still very similar in many respects.

Cheers.

We used the cheap and nasty one when we couldn't afford better, we then dumped it because it was shit and we had a distinctly different, much better option.

Great comment, and maybe a good starting point to get an agreement.
The issue is what your fellow supporter are saying. Things like "wear it when WE want".. Stuff Eddie, Stuff Gillon, Stuff the AFL.. We want to eventually wear it every match...
The push back to this is... Never.. B&W stripes is our jumper..

Anyway, keenly watching who your new coach will be...

Cheers

Ironic given your club was insolvent and only saved by expansions pal

Yep.

Ah well, when you have valuable assets and commodities, but no liquidity, you make decisions to survive.
Selling licences for entry to an AFL competition was one way.

And is Port unhappy they entered the comp? Do they feel they have been somehow scammed in playing in the AFL?
Do you think they wish they could have their licence fee returned and return to the SANFL?

To me, it was a win-win for the AFL and you, Crows, WCE, Freo, Brissy, GC and GWS...

Personally, knowing what I know now, I wish we had not entered the AFL.

I can do without the gambling advertising, the vfl old boys commentary, the FIXture, the constant erosion of FTA TV, and the MCG as the only place to play grand finals. Its not a national competition, its the non-VFL states propping up the VFL with national sponsorships and TV rights.
Never has it been more clear than in the way our heritage is manipulated and disregarded.

If Port went back to just being in the SANFL and got our zones back I'd probably watch more than the one game a fortnight I'm watching now.
There are however way too many snouts in the trough for that to happen, so I'll just be a part of the irrelevant white noise here.

Agree on some of these points (gambling advertising, the FTA TV, fixture) but also the constant changing of the rules, and the fact that the competition (as well as other sports) are focusing more on $$$ at the expense of supporters. I think some call it "progress"..

Cheers.
