even watching it live I knew the result 10 mins in :(
Tactically we played the same game plan that was not working for the whole game.

Nope, I'm happy for Fagan to see this one through with the same plan and same core players. We've come this far now, one or two more games left for 2022.

But at least in 2023 get more fresh blood and run n carry into first 22.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like Fagan is too much the players coach and isn't ruthless enough when it counts

Just my opinion looking in

I mean, I could say the same about Adam Simpson

Absolutely he is. Ken Hinkley is the same. They get away with it due to a good win/loss record and being darlings with the media. No one bothers to take a critical look at their win loss record in big games and particularly in finals.

Smashing bottom 10 teams and finishing in the top 6 means nothing if you can't stand up in finals.

I see a lot of similarities between Port and Brisbane. For Brisbane's sake I hope they don't get conned into 11 years of Fagan like we have with Hinkley. Good coaches not great coaches.

Just remember Melbourne were smashed in the 2018 QF, more than we were tonight. Rejigged & were ordinary for a year or two before coming back in 2021. Not saying that will be us but who knows. Ashcroft Fletcher more improvement from Rayner. Wilmot Lohmann etc.
Good pickup. I'm on the mini-reboot (or re-jig) bandwagon and even if we have a dip in 2023, it could be what we need to get over the final hurdle.

We're a bit older than our 2019 side, little slower as well and it's catching up to us. Ashcroft & Fletcher will be huge, Lohmann has good signs and we still have a massive list of young talent.

What I found most concerning was they way they waltzed clear early in the game with us running around a bit clueless, no system ,bumping into each other and pretending we were harassing the opposition by laying hard tackles when they had no way clear and just ran into us.

We've a playing issue obviously . It's become increasingly evident this year our coaching needs to be looked at.

Re Zorko can people please wait to see what actually was said and occurred before going off like headless chooks.

Its not just tonights incident martinson: but it is the straw that broke the camels back....the mere fact an opposing coach had to talk to ours and one of their players was in tears should tell you it was definately something a bit more serious than getting in someones face and niggling them.

Zorko has been a loose cannon for quite a while. He's been trying to pick fights in nearly every game, last week against the Saints was a good example.

no coach is ever going to apply the blowtorch to their team in the presser like you guys are hoping for unless theyre not going to be there next year like spike. give it up
watching Ben Dixon (who knows Fages quite well) on First Crack - basically said that Fages is pretty upfront so what he is like in the presser is basically similar to behind closed doors. Also called out Fagan plucking out winning stats as a positive when it was clear that we were flogged on the field. Clearly the stats are not a good indicator if you are getting flogged like that so why even look at those stats

I think Hodgey summed it up best. He said he’d show the players the first bounce of the game. And put it on them as to who had their head switched on and ready to play. And he’s right. That was some of the worst centre bounce work and defensive 50 defending you will see all year. A worse 30 seconds of footy just in terms of general smarts and alertness you will struggle to see.

I think he's clearly frustrated with the way we've been going and in his own way is trying to lift us.

OK so it backfires sometimes.

I am still bullish about the future but not with the same coaching panel and line up. Keep fages, he is a good people person, but get some serious coaching support in. We need a clean out there, fresh ideas.

We need a new skipper.

We need to regenerate and go younger, even if it’s at the expense of a couple of years, try something different.

Also, don’t know how you overcome the psychological paralysis we suffer in big games but it’s systemic to this group.

Mentally cooked, so need to fix that too.

i think we can come back.
Need to make some hard choices on some of our older players.

I just worry tactically we have nothing on game day.
We also missing someone who can lead from the front. Not just talking Zorko we have no big game players.
Rayner did it for us last week.
Although our super great forward line is pretty useless when the pressure comes.
Honestly no one can even bring the ball the ground. 58 inside 50's Do you ever see our forwards try to spoil Level or May.. Just watch them mark
We really are just down hill skiers. Pick off the bad teams.
Highest scoring team yes.. when the pressure comes we wet our bed

We lost the game in the first 3 minutes. At the time I thought it was lucky that they missed two shots and we had time to recover but in hindsight it was all over at that point.

I'm not watching Fages presser tonight but if he says one more time this year we've won all the key stats that we pride ourselves on so it was a good effort I'll....

You pride yourself on scoring more than the opposition. That's it.

It appeared at three quarter time that Fages was having a blue with one of the physio, clearly about Berry. Followed him around for a good three minutes with arms outstretched and next minute the sub was made. It looked ordinary.

Whether he said something bad or not his lack of leadership on field tonight was appalling.

Faux toughness - unnecessary crap.

The club needs to replace him with Lachie Neale ASAP.
Yer I hate the bolded, particularly if it happens when you are getting absolutely smashed on the scoreboard, nearly shits me as much as blatant diving in soccer.

Having good forwards is utterly pointless if you don't put any pressure on to win the ball. We look great going forward (usually) but horrible when the opposition has it. Deer in the headlights is the best description.

Zorko lost his pace

Now he just that angry yappy dog.
His skills still great with the ball.. He just cannot do what he used to.
Body gone.. He been playing sore the last few years might just be time

Berry was one of the shining lights tonight, despite having an ankle bigger than a football.

How on earth Berry even got his foot into his boot looking at his ankle was a miracle.

Should've been subbed off there and then.

We had no hope anyway.

Its pretty damning seeing footage of the first bounce. Melbourne players could have almost walked that goal in they had that much space. For all the talk we weren't switched on at all

I declared the game over after that first bounce and their first goal - said they will demolish us. Clear we had frozen over again, mids literally stood there and watched them. Got told I was a panic merchant by neutral supporters in the room, they were all fully agreeable after about 15 minutes.
