Looks alright. All comes down to how most of the top ups play.

Why does Hately not qualify? Feels like he played most of the season in the SANFL.
Stupid SANFL decided to go with counting, rather than feelings ;)

6 SANFL games out of 18
11 AFL games out of 22.

Certainly does not qualify. Played 50% of the AFL Season. And we now know based on Himmelberg qualifying that they go by % of season rather than games played.

maybe..

but that would just be more evidence of how *ing dumb the club is..

you dont pass up on talent and potential like that, especially when it looks like it could fill a gaping hole in your list (a big bodied mid) just because it may limit your ability to have a crack at some blokes that could become available at a later date..

the two list spots we opened just before the MSD were from putting Sloane and Seedsman on the LTI list.. if Carmichael came onto the list and started tearing it up.. as a rebuilding side, the responsible thing to do would be to pay out one of slaone or seedsman and free up the spot to accomodate Carmichael permanently.

lets face it.. sloanes cooked and seedsman is about a 10% chance of ever returning… these two should be the last on the “prioritise for the future” *ing list.

but not the dicks making the decisions at the crows… no.. these morons will probably extend Sloane and seedsman before they even get back on the training track fulltime!.. because…“experience”.

also.. alternatively, if Carmichael didnt work out and in 12 months time its clear he’s s**t.. he would be on minimun chips salary wise anyway.. just pay him out and move him on to free up the list spot.

no matter which way you cut it.. the overlooking of Carmichael was simply atrocious list and draft management. just appalling.

There's no doubt that we're bad enough to buckle to public pressure and extend Sloane as soon as he performs nearl passable. But we're not that bad that Seed will get extended without actually returning.

Sam Shaw was kept on the list to make sure he had access to compo and welfare management. I was hope they do the same for Seedsman if it comes to that

That was because the policy was being activated in the year that we kept him on for. It's already in place for Seed, so no issue there. It's a tough one. I would probably be soft enough to keep him on ahead of bringing in a pick in the 4th round. But I'd not have ignored Carmichael out of fear of having to make the tough call on Seed at end of the year if we needed.

18 months and he fills a need, we used a list spot not draft picks. Get rid of some of the contracted dead wood

Given the age of our list and quality of the experienced guys, we should have contracts frontloaded to the max. Sloane's final $800k should already be paid and he should be gone. Our first picked forward line already has 6 players, Tex, TT, Fog, McAdam, Rachelle and presumably Rankine. If genuine midfield roles for Murphy and Ned aren't in the picture, then they're just going to languish in and out of the side and fizzle out like Riley Knight did. I'm not saying they're not capable of AFL quality footy, but we're rebuilding and we shouldn't be locking in depth. If we cop injuries it should be players who aren't known depth/bottom 6 of the 22 coming in. At least not in a proper rebuild, which we know this isn't.

Looking at that SANFL team that's going to destroy the hapless Redlegs, there's 4 players that could replace any of the primary 3 smalls without making our 22 functionally worse than it would be if we had gone with Rowe, Murphy or Ned. Or if it is functionally worse, not anywhere near enough to warrant not giving games to unknown quantities at the level that may develop into high quality players. Even if contending you'd choose the unknown as they could rise to the level and contribute significantly as opposed to just plodding along and running to the right spots out of muscle memory and not impacting. In a rebuild, then it can't be argued you don't go with the unknown in those last couple of spots.

Shaw was done so that he would have access to the terms & conditions under a new AFL/AFLPA player agreement, which supposedly had better provisions for supporting injured players. There's no such need for Seedsman, who is already covered - but I would definitely hope (and expect) that the club would take care of him in his retirement.

Why. He should be looked after to the extent that his contract, laws etc provide. Like any other injured worker in any other industry. What do you expect the club to do beyond what is already covered by contract, insurance and other laws?

have to assume there's no interest in Billy. No player would ever help out their teammates and play meaningless SANFL finals if they're heading to another club during the offseason.

He played finals for Port in 2019 before being traded to us.

And?

Should we have drafted Kyle Presbury, Riley Knight or Patrick Wilson? Partington has lit up the local comp (and is only 25) for the last 3-4 years and can’t get another spot on an AFL list, what did Turner offer that Partington (or his partner in crime Snook) didn’t?

Every other SANFL mid-season draftee was young with some pretty clear upside (Carmichael, Menzie, Bauer, Williams), bar Durdin who was recruited to cover Carlton’s KPD woes at the time. What about Turner did we see as such a point of difference that he was worth drafting?
Turner is faster and has neater skills than Partington, who is much more an accumulator.

That's even worse then and a blight on our drafting team.
Maybe.

I wouldn't have selected him, but I think Turner has AFL traits. He's multipositional, skilled and certainly not slow.
