Great to see him get a game. He’s actually in a better position than Cox was as his younger and has been able to play nab league. There’s so much more time for him to improve his skills in a professional environment. I love that clubs do this, remember we had Shae McNamarra before Mason so maybe it’s a 10% chance but why not.

As I understand it, he moves into a Cat B rookie slot when he does get added. Whether that’s in 2023 or later doesn’t really matter.

Coxy just posted a photo on IG and big roo is standing next to him and f me he’s basically the same size with a bigger frame.
Coxy has to win Tweeter or Instgramer of the year award…
Love his work.
Roo is a big fellow…even in his sneakers.
Hope he can make it…

The club need to do something with those chicken legs but the rest of him looks ideally suited to AFL.He must be 205 or 206 cm only 4or5cm shorter than Cox and most importantly 6 yrs sooner into the system, he is obviously around the players quite a bit already I wonder if he does pre season this this year. I have wanted to see whether we could pry Moyle loose from the Suns but if all my dreams come true with this lad we may not need to here,s hoping.

Have seen Big roo on the pies social media doing visits to indigenous schools with Leon Davis. Does anyone know where the big fella is playing this year. Is he a possibility for a VFL game. I’d love to see how he’s going.

Been training with the VFL squad. So hopefully.. But depends on his footy sklls as he develops those. And probably depends on injuries, given he is a ruck. Oscar would be first ruck at this point/rotate with Begg (when he is fit)

Thanks Jen, I do hope he continues to improve. I’ve got big hopes for him. We’ve done well with Coxy and he isn’t half as athletic as big Roo. Ok we bombed out on Shae Mac but I’m glad the club is prepared to try the international boys that are not Irish.

Fingers crossed he does develop. He's worked on his strength the last few years, and is a big boy and only 19/20. And from the little ive seen this year from VFL training, he's slowly improving his skills. A lot better than when he first arrived.

Hopefully we move Begg back and go in in with a Steene/Faye ruck combo

That is my dream combination too, it would be good for him if the club does try him in the VFL this season, I happened to catch him in a nab reserves match or something and he kicked a goal and he does not lack aggression which is something you want from your ruck.

Good luck to him. But with heaps of local Aussie born Sudanese kids - it seems a strange move - although soccer and basketball are winning the Sudanese interest.
A very imposing figure is roo.
Still very young. At the same age guys like Wayne Carey were scrawny in comparison.
Have a good feeling about this kid.

He's massive, but there are a fair few massive Sudanese kids around. There's already 3 Sudanese guys in the Socceroos, where enormous size isn't as big an advantage, as it is in Aussie Rules. And those 3 were born with the disadvantage of a refugee camp. The Aussie born African kids are going to dominate soccer and basketball in this country. Hopefully more of them pick up an oval ball.

Size is an advantage in soccer, add to that Sudanese athletes seem to have a much better than average vertical jump, deadly in the box.

Looks 208 minimum to me assuming Cox is the better part of 211.

I think we need to remember Aussie rules is a very unique game skills wise, you could pick any AFL footballer and put a basketball in their hands and they’d look capable, they would all know how to dribble and do layups, many could even dunk, many of those may have not even played basketball before but that doesn’t mean they can play.

Aussie rules is a different beast, as in only those born into it get to learn the basics of the game and add to that the basic skills of Aussie rules are much harder to learn, add to that the sheer physicality of the sport while executing those skills, I imagine it wouldn’t be an easy gig no matter your physical stature, AFL skills just aren’t that transferable into other sports ex NFL punting.

Likely still growing if he's 18 or so years old.
Damn!!

Lot’s of people from war torn countries are given 1/1 birthdates due to having no documentation, not sure how they come up with an actual age, my son in his little athletic days competed against a few Sudanese kids who were all ‘born’ 1/1 giving them a massive advantage, not that it mattered because they were light years ahead.

There was a bit of stink up in the NBA with Thon Maker I believe, some thought he was as much as 5 years older than his birth certificate said iirc.

Same issue with Richard tambling. I heard one recruiter say he could’ve been 20 or 21 years old in his draft year, there was no way to know for sure. Kinda held water when you saw his lack of development..

He's not Sudanese.
He comes from Senegal I thought I read , West Africa as opposed to East Africa, the people from West Africa are generally bigger than those from the East, sprinters as opposed to distance runner. What I like about him is his aggression which I think translates well to a ruckman.

How many Australian born Sudanese kids over 200cm are in the AFL?

How many Australian born Sudanese kids with an AFL background are eligible cat Bs?
