1. He hasn’t worked significantly in the industry in at least 7 years
2. He is narcissistic enough to believe that this lack of experience stands him in good stead to understand and excel,in the modern game

Agree. Not only could he play was one of the most courageous players to play the game. People like Archer had to be courageous because they lacked anything else but Hird had skill and didn’t need to put his body on the line to be a great.

Great player, doesn’t mean he can coach.
