Quote from today EXCITING TIMES AHEAD
SANDRINGHAM Dragons have won the 2022 NAB League premiership, claiming the competition’s first flag since 2019.

‘Will Ashcroft claimed the best on ground medal for a dominant performance through the midfield. Ashcroft, who has nominated as a father-son selection for the Brisbane Lions, finished with 39 disposals, six clearances, six inside 50m entries and five tackles.’

The lady on Armchair Experts (not sure her name) just said she's not sure where Ashcroft could play in our team :drunk::oops: How are these people even on TV talking footy if that's your take on a prospective #1 pick that that Shifter Sheehan said during the week that Aschroft's season was the best hes seein in his time and with his profeionalism and this lady says that there may not be a spot for him - Lost. For. Words

Thought about it some more and that’s such a funny statement to make after that game in particular.

I didnt watc

Yep, and still no Fagan press conference on 7 which I have seen them cut to the losing coach press conference on other episodes.

I didn't see the game, but just saw a pick on FB of Marcus with his two sons Will & Levi with premiership medallions. Question - so am I right in thinking that Levi has just won a flag playing u18's when he was playing u/16's at the start of the year, so he's not only a bottom ager but a double one? Wow if so, particulalry at that elite junior comp.

She basically said with our midfield and the inclusion of Dunkley and our forwards that where could he possibly play unlike Daicos that could play across half back which it sounded to me that she implied Ashcroft couldnt do.

Genuinely clueless assessment of any no.1 or a player as rated as Ashcroft is - hell he got 3 votes in the VFL brownlow equivalent when he played for our reserves and when we are crying out for mids, she says this - I'm guessing she knows nothing of Brisbane which is fine, but not when you are a supposed 'expert' on a footy tv show.

As I understand it Levi doesn’t turn 16 until later in the year - playing as a 15 year old in the NAB league is very impressive.

He could take any bloody spot in the 22 after tonight!

Hey fellas just curious with the Ashcroft and the father-son rule. Ever since they changed the draft system and matching picks etc I have NFI whats going on on Draft day. As most pundits believe Ashcroft will be a first round selection, & that Will has agreed to join the club under the father-son rule does that mean no other clubs can select him? Or if they can, Brisbane only have to match with their first round pick (pick 15)?

Brisbane can select him no matter what pick he is selected at as he has nominated as a father/son, but when a club picks him Brisbane will have to match that picks points value of that pick minus 20%.

Ah okay I understand.
I guess if you can’t match that value with current picks you would have to try and trade up?

We have some kids in the '23 draft too right? Any of them likely to go high? Or since they are apparently KPPs, are we still likely to get them if you have picks in the 30sor 40s as our first?

Is there any chance in hell that we could somehow snaffle a player in the draft between the Ashcroft and Fletcher bids as well, IMO Fletcher will be bid on in the 2nd round somewhere, on the night we may try to trade back in to the early 2nd round to grab a developing key position tall who could go in that area of the draft eg. Isaac Keeler, Lewis Hayes.

Probably dreaming but:think:. Or is there a chance we could pass on Fletcher and just go for the developing tall?

Not realistically. Ashcroft will demolish any picks we have, likely to very late in the draft. Fletcher is useful because we can then potentially match him with anything left over and/or next year's points, otherwise we'll just be picking through the scraps.

Pretty slim. We’re going to have to trade both first round picks for Dunkley and points. So we’re not going to have the currency to trade back in.

Just my opinion.

Billy Richardson looks the most likely. He’s a 196cm KPD. I believe he’ll be a second round selection or later.

Bradley McDonald is a 197cm KPP, who will play in this weekends U17 Futures match, before the grand final.

We can match them with later picks next year.

We might have a couple of other academy kids who might be rookie selections.
Patrick Snell 194cm KPD (Wilston Grange)
Jett Jessen 191cm KPF (Mt Gravatt)
Maverick Garaicoa 176cm SF (Wilston Grange)

Have heard third hand that Essendon may be keeping a bit of an eye on McDonald. I think he comes from an Essendon supporting family as well.
