The fun part is when you consider we started the trade period with 18, 56 and 69. We also traded out a future second and Sharp, but got an upgrade on our future third (we have Essendon's).
Makes you wonder if we needed to trade out our future second. But that's me being a hindsight hero. I had little complaint at the time because I figured we'd have issues getting the points together without going into deficit.

Love the picture in the background.
Yeah, imagine being the poster boy of the club even before the club drafts you. Levi setting the bar high already.

I loved his answer for premiership - premiership in year 1? Yeah in 1,2,3,4,5 !!

Levi might kill the father son on his own.

If Daniel Annable is bid on at pick 5 and Raphael Geesu at 25(first round) next year does anyone know what sort of selections we would need to have to grab them both with the new matching criteria?

It would be an interesting little exercise as to what the difference would be to Ashcroft/Marshall at 5 & 25 this year and how difficult it would be for us to match the same bids next year.

Some may love him and you have to salute him, but as long as clubs seem happy telling Cal Twomey who they plan on selecting, it pretty much kills draft night for me. Might as well go back to the 10-1 count-up - the whole thing is a procession. Sure, there was a little mixing it up outside the top 10, but overall it makes the whole experience a little dull. Even more so, when you have to wait 5 minutes for each pick.

The salt tears on the main draft thread were delicious.I know what goes around comes around but I am enjoying life at present.
I really don't know what the problem is. It's not like he was a standout #1. OK, I'm not sure any power rankings had him at #5. Some had him #3, so not too far off.

Easy to say "package up the picks and trade them" but I don't think there'll be many takers especially considering the points sytem is changing next year.
Won't be super straightforward, but as you get towards the picks, you usually find a club who can't believe X player is still on the board and trade for him. They're mid-3rd rd picks. A future 3rd for a current 3rd is pretty possible. We also have 2 future 3rds available too. If a club thinks we/essendon are falling, and they are rising, they may trade R3 + Future 3rd for their Future 2nd.

I'd expect the club to make a call or two before R2 starts, and even if they can't line up a trade, they can line up a "if the player you like is on the board in 15 picks time and you want to make a jump, we're keen to help".

Even then, we're talking about 3rd rounders. No one is expecting to score a 1st rounder or anything.

At risk of being "that guy", but we all know Twomey's article is going to be the inside mail and pretty accurate. It's really the only phantom worth reading if you want that info. So it's pretty easy to then avoid that if you don't want spoilers and just take the Fox coverage at face value?

The interviews were kinda annoying. Levi just got drafted to the club and most of the questions directed at him was about Will. Cringe.

I wanted Will to be swanning around at the table just wearing his Norm Smith as a flex. Maybe go have a chat to Lalor - "oh, an Aylett Medal? That's nice..."

I think North trade is backing in their system. Sometimes clubs just have to grow up and to be mature enough to take these risks. The Lions had some eyebrow raising trades and selections a few years ago but it's paid off. Some did some didn't. It's a risk sure but any future trading is a risk. They have their own ratings and probably had that Whitlock kid in top 15 on their draft board.

If all our Premiership players are available(bar Joe of course) for opening round 2025 who does Levi force out of the side.... McKenna as the sub or go small and straight swap for Joe?

The prediction was that he'd start forward given his goal kicking chops and rotate so it could well be for Joe depending on structure.

Day is definitely seen as a break in case of emergency scenario closer to Joyce rather than a round 1 option.

If the Twitter/X post floating around from last night is true that North were shopping their future first from pick 8 onwards, I'd imagine he could've been closer to top 10 on their board.

Out of interest, reading the posts on the WCE forum, seems they had Ashcroft rated no. 2. Wonder if that meant they would've bid with pick 3 if they'd kept it.

Im not sure it was just Whitlock they were chasing. They could have still been trying to shop up for Faull and Armstrong as well, but became more desperate as the others came off the board.

I still cant quite believe they were shopping it from 8 without asking for something major back. It seems crazy that a club like GWS or Sydney wouldnt have taken a future first from North for one of their picks
