Assuming we lose JOM & Titch without securing Meek / Poulter / XOH:

Hardwick ~ Blanck ~ DGB
Jiath ~ Sicily ~ Day
Morrison ~ Ward ~ Amon
Maginness ~ Frost ~ Moore
Wingard ~ Lewis ~ Breust
Reeves ~ Newcombe ~ Worpel
Scrimshaw ~ MacDonald ~ Nash ~ Impey

*Butler ~ Morris ~ Bramble ~ Brockman
**Kosi ~ Jeka ~ Lynch ~ Serong

***Long ~ Seamus ~ Saunders ~ Draftees.

Not a lot of depth.
Touchwood we get close to full seasons out of Wingard & Reeves.

It seems some people are concerned about the impact the loss of experience will have, but I'm more excited by the uncertainty. Our best 22 isn't overly impacted (albeit Gunston a big loss) and we saw the improvement in our youth across the course of '22. '23 should be much the same if we don't get too many injuries. If we get hit with injuries early season, it could get grim - with some players possibly being put on ice prior to seasons end.

I see Frost getting a gig up fwd next yr. A bit of Frostball could help our small fwds and provide some protection for ML.
Morris will likely displace DGB at points during the year - i am hoping he plays 16+ games tbh.
Ditto Butler - but I daresay injuries will give him plenty of senior side exposure.

No 2nd ruck which is flawed, so someone likely to slide out if we get Meek or play Kosi / Lynch.

Frost as a CHF???

Frost as a CHF???
It was clear last season that ML needs help up fwd.
Frost was trialled up fwd prior to injury (the tassie game?)
Out of all our KPDs, I think Frost is the most expendable, so yea, i reckon we'll see him moved out of the backline & trialled up fwd next season. High fwd rather than deep fwd. He's quick and has a defensive pressure mindset. Not sure how Sam plans on scoring goals, but i believe that if Frost gets the ball fwd of centre, it can get I50 quickly and unpredictably - a dbl edged sword sure, but i'd rather see it fwd of centre than behind centre.

Time will tell - Kosi could well be played ahead of him, others will surely be trialled, but prior to the end of trade period '22, that's how i see it. We can't just surround ML with smalls.

At BoxHill? I'm not sure if he's best 22.

There’s less competition for spots on the wing than across half back. Now that Morris and Jeka are learning the craft playing in defence, I don’t see any other role for Bramble besides the wing position.

B. Hardwick Frost Scrimshaw
HB. Day Sicily Jiath
C. Morrison Newcombe Amon
HF. Moore Kosi Wingard
F. Breust Lewis Macdonald

Foll: Reeves Ward Worpel
IC: Meek Maginness Impey DGB
5th bench/sub: Butler or Stephens

This side gives us an experienced leader on each line. I actually don't mind it.

Pre draft

FB: Morris - Blanck - DGB
HB: Jiath - Sicily - Hardwick
C: Day - Newcombe - Amon
HF: Moore - Serong - Brockman
FF: Breust - Lewis - Reeves
R: Meek - Ward - Wingard
IC: Scrimshaw - Morrison - Maginness - Worpel - MacDonald - Nash

Butler - Frost - Impey - Kosi - Stephens

OUT:
Mitchell
O’Meara
Shiels
Phillips
Howe

IN:
Amon
Pick 6

There’s at least three spots up for grabs in the midfield.

I don’t think Worpel on current form is in the best 22 at the moment. He’s going to have to earn that back again.

I want to see Day and MacDonald as part of the new-look midfield rotation.

FB: DGB - Blanck - Hardwick
HB: Jiath - Sicily - Scrimshaw

Very solid back 6, up there with the best in the competition.
Sicily and Hardwick are AA quality. Jiath & Scrimshaw should have big years if they can stay injury free.

MID: Reeves - Newcombe - Worpel
MID: Day - Ward - Amon

Not gonna lie, we probably have the worst midfield in the competition pound for pound.
Not fussed though, we'll lose every stoppage, defence will mop it up and transition directly to our very good forward line hahaha

HF: MacDonald - Koschitzke - Wingard
FF: Breust - Lewis - Moore

We've got three a graders and a full forward capable of kicking 60 goals. We'll win majority of the games we win the inside 50 count (could be less than 3).

INT FROM:
R: Lynch, Meek, Ramsden
F: Brockman, Serong, Butler, Jeka
M: Stephens, Nash, Morrison, Bramble, Long
D: Impey, Frost, Morris
Pick 7, Pick 24.

Players 19-36 are actually a lot stronger than I imagined after losing O'Meara/Mitchell/Gunston/McEvoy/Shiels. We have good depth in the ruck, options up forward, competition for midfield spots and cover for each of the back 6.

I'm manifesting a move up to Sheezel in the draft. He'd walk into our forward line meaning Moore and Wingard could play a lot more time in the midfield.

If the 5 man bench comes in

Hardwick - Blanck - DGB/Frost
CJ - Sicily - Day

Amon - Newcombe - Morrison

Scrimshaw - Jeka - Wingard
Breust - Lewis - Impey/Butler

Reeves - Worpel - Moore

Ward - MacDonald - Pick 6 - Nash/Finn - Meek/Lynch

Sicily - Blanck - Hardwick
Jiath - DGB - Scrimshaw

Day - Meek - Amon
Newcombe - Ward - Worpel

Moore - Reeves - Macdonald
Breust - Lewis - Wingard

Maginness - Morrison - Frost - Nash
Stephens
Butler - Lynch - Brockman - Morris

FB: Hardwick, Blanck, DGB
HB: Scrimshaw, Sicily, CJ
C: Day, Newcombe, Amon
HF: Moore, Kozi, Wingard
FF: Bruest, Lewis, Brockman

Foll: Reeves, Ward, Worpel

Int: Morris, Mcdonald, Butler, Meek

Probably some bias as I'd rather see Morris in over frost as the last defender, also leaving Morrison out seems unlikely so maybe Butler/Brockman/Mcdonald won't be 22 to start the year, I just feel like Sam will be trying to get as many games into them as possible.
We'll have a tough time in the midfield next year but at least there are guys like Maginness, Stephens, Nash and pick 6 who will be pushing for selection every week and Moore and Mcdonald playing more in there next year.
With all the Harley Reid talk going on, 2023 will probably have less wins than this year but I still cant see us at the bottom of the ladder

B: Hardwick, Blancke, DGB
HB: Day, Sicily, Scrimshaw
C: CJ, Newcombe, Amon
HF: Breust, Kozi, Wingard
FF: Brockman, Lewis, Moore
Foll: Ned, Worpel, Ward

IC: McDonald, Finn, Butler, Jekalenko

That team is playing finals.

Talk about bottom 4 is pure fantasy.

C: Morrison, Ward, Amon
HF: Moore, Lewis, MacDonald
FF: Breust, Reeves, Wingard

Ruck: Meek, Newcombe, Worpel

Int: Day, Nash, Maginness, Pick 6

Subject to a lot of change. Morrison on the field as a wing because he has more of a dedicated role than Day who will be a bit of a utility.

Here is my take. Kozzy and Brockman most at risk but I think our forward depth is a weakness of our squad. Jeka borderline with DGB just depending on how big the opp KPF we face are. Ages as of R1 next year.
