I’m loosely with you on Cummins (in this situation) FWIW. I don’t think he’s a bad person though. I reckon he probably hasn’t thought it through properly.
I fail to see how you can tell yourself:

"I'm going to tell coal miners they can't put food on their table but I won't even give up a first-class seat on a plane" without being a horrible person.

But that's ok. I'm always for forgiveness - another thing that sets my side apart. But he has to actually admit he is in the wrong.

Yeah. I mean we don’t actually know what he’s doing to reduce his carbon footprint. I agree activism isn’t enough; one has to put things into practice. I know Gates does heaps to offset his emissions, so he’s at least very considered in it. Cummins maybe hasn’t got to that point yet, or maybe he’s doing things already. That’s why I initially said the contradictions need to be addressed: he needs to show how he’s leading by example.

Gates? Don't bring that guy into any conversation relating to good deeds

As I said, the key word is "sacrifice". A billionaire spending a million dollars on "offsets" is not a genuine sacrifice. At a minimum, both Gates and Cummins should use less CO2 than the average person.

AKA "oops, I was hoping he wouldn't bring that up".

We all have T shirts made up. Want one?

Anyway, both sides are clearly prone to hyperbole (you're the only one displaying it in this thread). But yes, one side is good people one side is bad people. I see exactly what you mean.

You keep rattling that "sacrifice" horseshit. It's merely you owning your selfishness because you've never thought of a cause past your own nose. Such a fundamentally good person!

Yes. Coercing people to make sacrifices you wouldn't make yourself definitely proves how, ummm, "selfless" you are.

Incidentally, my side gives way more to charity than your side. And that doesn't even take into account the amount of courage it requires to stand up against "cancel culture". I can't remember the last time someone on your side lost their job because of their views. We only have to go back to the CEO of a certain AFL club a couple of weeks back for an example on my side. And he didn't even say anything!

So yes, thanks for confirming that one side is indeed essentially all bad and the other is essentially all good.

Diddums.

P&G, the owner of Gillette has a Landry list of unethical practices in their locker... from child labor, to price fixing to animal testing to toxic shock sydrome cases in their feminine products - carn Cummo!

There's an interesting doco from almost 20 years ago called The Corporation. It's worth watching to see how some of them operate when it comes to ethics.

all you probably need to know about the general ethics of people is the popularity of k-mart in this country - its so cheap! ...but its made by kids and people in developing nations who work for less than a dollar a day and breaks in 5 minutes contributing to land fil.. yeh, but its so cheap!

It certainly wasn't a kneejerk response to anything and given that people like you don't like to have this pointed out to them, it's clearly poignant (ie not inane).

You could argue that it is hyperbole but that depends on the extent of how much sacrifice you are asking others to make. Cummins wants millions of people to experience blackouts and job loss so I think having his life destroyed is fair enough. It won't be but he deserves it.

Life destroyed is a bit much, how about a season of balls that won't go reverse
