Genuine question, do we think Tom Browne can drive?

He grew up ridiculously wealthy and has the intelligence of below even an average poster on here. I think there's every chance he's never driven in his life.
Are you saying tom browne is hungry Tiger?

They’ll be hoping North Melbourne pull another ‘Hugh Greenwood’…
Called it at the time it was a salary dump.

Norf thought they were so clever . I mean 700k for Hugh greenwood was stupid of GC in the first place , norf 'poaching' him and adding another year !

Stupid .

Maybe we should delist gaff and re-rookie him and see if anyone bites

Geelong has an absolutely shocking record with first round selections. They have a great record with second rounds are are brilliant at getting trade targets in for cheap.

Was curious about this, so did some digging...I bolded the definite hits, italicised ones where it's marginal, cut-off at 2017 given it's still too early to make conclusive calls for those less than five years into their career:

1st round picks
1998 - none
1999 - Corey (276 games for Geelong), Spriggs (64), Bray (0)
2000 - none
2001 - Bartel (305), Kelly (273)
2002 - Mackie (280)
2003 - Tenace (59)

2006 - Selwood (355)
2007 - Taylor (280)
2008 - Brown (15)
2009 - Menzel (73)

17 picks used, 8 hits, 2 marginal

2nd round picks

2016 - Parfitt (112), Stewart (126)
2017 - Fogarty (23), Kelly (48), Constable (12)

27 used, 8 hits, 4 marginal

I wouldn't go that far to say they have bombed their first rounders but nailed their seconds. Looks like a typical success/failure ratio of most AFL sides. As always with many premiership sides, you just have to get lucky with the right players in the right spots and trade astutely, and it makes up for the draft failures.

Thanks- that's interesting. I was thinking more about the last 10 years when I made my comment and they haven't done well in first rounders since 2007. I didn't realise they were also pretty bad with second rounders.

Look at their period from 2010 to 2017. The only first round hit was Guthrie and he didn't come good until 2020. Their only second round hits were parfitt, Stewart and Kelly and they came from 2016 and 2017!

Their recent success has clearly been built on free agency, trades and keeping their veterans on the park for a long time. Their drafting is actually shithouse.

Not just that - aside from the aforementioned one third of their premiership team being recruited from other clubs (Dangerfield, Smith, Tuohy, Cameron, Stanley, Stengle, Rohan)...

Jack Henry - rookie (non-mature age)
Mark O'Connor - international
Gryan Miers - pick 57
Brad Close - rookie (mature age)
Mark Blicavs - rookie (former runner)
Jed Bews - pick 86
Tom Atkins - rookie (mature age)
Zac Guthrie - rookie (non-mature age)

Not many first or second round picks. A key part of our future flag push will be lucking out on these speculative picks - and it is mostly luck. Someone like Jamaine Jones that has shown rapid improvement and may have a found niche as a rebounding half back, and making a mockery of the speculative nature of his initial selection by us. One can hope someone else like say Jai Culley becomes part of a premiership side and we luck out on his development.

More importantly most of those guys are bit footballers playing a role. You can find them at pick 10 and you can't find them in the rookie draft.

So was Ross talking with the Saints before Ratten was fired? If so, its the second time he's got someone fired early.
I think everything fell into place far too nicely and quickly for that not to be the case.

St Kilda will always angle it that RTB interest had nothing to do with Ratten’s sacking but I highly doubt.

Hawthorn, Brisbane and Norf (also known as the worst team of all time) are all engulfed in racism scandals. Hawthorn are also tanking.
Essendon sacked their coach and dusted off Brad Scott
St Kilda go full you-know-what and bring back Ross the Boss

Makes giving up Pick 2 for a couple of local mids (or a local key defender and a HBF...) from a U18 team that got beaten every week seem like nothing at all.

Like nothing at all.

Essendon's CEO was also in and out in 24 hours.

As bad as things may get for our club (and we've had plenty of low points), most other clubs would prefer our on and off-field performance since foundation.

I knew there was more to Essendon than just sacking their coach, not sure how I forgot that saga!

Probably because it only lasted like 24 hours. Even Liz Truss lasted longer!
