Managed 248 more senior games than me. Regardless of that though, to extract that sort of longevity from his limited skill set while continually reinventing himself should be admired. It's a testament to his character.
I admire his character and his acheivements, doesn't mean I enjoyed watching play him though.

I'm still struggling to see how he gets a game given the fact he couldn't break into the team in a year when we were desperately in need of some height in defense.
He’s young and developing, it’s quite normal…especially since he’s had so many interruptions. His brother came in later and he wasn’t a tall

If he was a stop and prop merchant Mayne was a stop and prop CEO.

The next possession stats for the 2 would make interesting reading. I'd hazard a guess that the next possession following a Mayne disposal had an extremely high percentage of being a teammate. I'd hazard a guess that the opposite was true of Poulter. He all too often stopped and propped and then launched a long floaty bomb down the line that advantaged nobody but opposition defenders. All they did was boost his kicking efficiency stats and meters gained stats. I've consistently made the same observations since his debut in 2021. Sometimes sadly though, some people just don't see the forest for the trees. I'd still play Mayne ahead of Poulter. Happy for you to think otherwise, I'll leave it there.

You've just perfectly described my point. Poulter came in the side and actually went forward with the ball when the majority of supporters were tired of Mayne's backwards passing. That increased the stocks of Poulter in the eyes of many here despite not actually being effective. Kudos to you for picking it out and being consistent with your observation.

I wouldn't play either and leave it there.

I think Mayne played his best footy for us in his final season, as a defender.

Sorry, my bad. I didn't realise you actually had or were making a point.

You obviously love a cliche and a stereotype.
Tell me who are all these "run and gun chain" super stars that Coll has played or will play in 2023.
Taylor Adams - great heart and hard as ..... but slow and terrible kick
Sidebottom - great footy brain but slow and made the 20m dinky kick to the opposition his trademark
I guess they won't be playing in "run and gun chain" side. Oh you better throw in Tom Mitchell too.

Let's get this straight .... Kelly is on the list for 4 years (injury interrupted) and McCrae and two other ex-senior AFL coaches get together and say "BF followers say he can't kick or handball and is so slow. No football ability at all. Let's give him another year and we will delist 6 other players instead."
Yes, that makes sense. Very warped logic.

You obviously haven't watched his VFL form. He did make the emergencies for the seniors in some games, so he is rated in the best 26 -28 on the list as a 22-year-old. So, he can't be that bad. I'm not saying he is a super star but i just don't get the hate for what he has produced so far.

as an independent observer, i'd just like to say that SR has posted to me weekly on will kelly's form. He has been most meticulous about it, citing a lot of the data. I'm not expert but I've got the impression that he must be one of the foremost authorities on will kelly's footy career that I've seen in the pages of BF.

Having studied him closely, I've noticed that when he's injured, he doesn't stand stationary with the footy just waiting to be tackled. So there is hope that he could remove that from his un-injured game and become a free flowing damaging wingman, with notes of Peter Matera.

Keeping Kelly over madgen was the right decision ✅

I have little hope for Kelly, but having just turned 22… he has some time on his side.

A consistent run at it in the VFL in a consistent role might see him mature

I had little hope for Murphy. I recall Murphy being imo fairly average down back in 2021… but getting a solid run at it in 2021 helped him in 2022 (and some added bulk)…

Whereas Madgen was… well, Madgen. A trooper and a clubman, but was clearly not part of the defensive mix going forward

Was not even named as an emergency for a final series where we were down a key defender

And was/is never going to play AFL as a forward ahead of Mihocek Henry (then), Mcstay (now), Johnson, Kreuger or Cox/Cameron when resting forward

And as a 29 year old at the time of delisting, it was not like he had much improvement ahead of him 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone seen him in the same room as Harpo Marx? A rhetorical question:

Just heard him on SEN: Delighted to have the new contract, hoping for a big pre-seaon to get expectations up to the best they have ever been, and is then going to take it just one soft tissue injury at a time.
