Fixture 2023 Fixture

So as a semi finalist last season, the times for our three released fixtures are:
  • Round 1 away on a Sunday arvo,
  • Round 3 home on a Sunday arvo,
  • Round 5 away on a Friday arvo.
The good news is though that there may be a road trip on my horizon.
So to extrapolate we will have to play back to back six day games following the Derby too, just for the privilege of playing on a Friday afternoon in Stuffed A-Round.

The more i think about it the more of a disgrace it is for the Freo faithful in WA.

Why don't the club just release a statement FFS calling out the BS.

Its not like we get any favours anyway so s**t-bagging the AFL wont affect us too much.
Couldn't agree more. We're in a domestic violence relationship with an abuser. We kept trying to be nice to him in the hope that recent punch in the mouth will be the last, and he really will change and treat us with respect. But he's a ****ing dog, and it's time to tell everyone.

Or a 7-day break to a 5-day break, because why do things half-arsed?

I'm more worried about the break between games.

Derby Sunday night, then the next round, then round five Friday afternoon. Perhaps we get a win and it goes:
Round 1 - away
Round 2 - home
Round 3 - home derby (Sunday)
Round 4 - home (Saturday)
Round 5 - Friday afternoon away

But I'm expecting us to play Saturday afternoon in Melbourne off a six day break after a derby, fly home, then a six day break flying to Adelaide.

Exhaust the squad early and we can feel that part of the fixture for months.
I'd assume round 4 would be away given round 6 will more than likely be at home (ANZAC round)

They wouldn't give us a normal schedule and West Coast 3 away games in a row

Except it's not Friday night, it would be mid-afternoon on a Friday WA time if the rumour is true, at Norwood oval.
I reckon that might be breaking point for following AFL for me - in the pecking order when all 18 teams are in the same city for magic round, they schedule our game against the shittiest team at a suburban ground when most of us are at work and school? Nah, I'll be done with it.

Grubby. The black crows of the AFL doth peck at the carrion of roadkill teams!

As baulked by a black-clothed dirty AFL agent: "Gather round, gather round...for I've a story to tell ye.....those Dockers will never WIN that Premiership, I warn ye...for some sheep be white, some be black..wherever we send those Dockers will be total crap!!"

As much a "* you AFL" as the club can do
Actually a little further over the line than I was expecting. You know you've stuffed it up when one of your members is willing to be so overt in their criticism.

But just another little snub from the AFL to add to the memory banks that will make the first flag just that little bit sweeter.

Surely these games count outside of the normal home/away allocation?
Look that's what you would assume given the Jack Reacher Gather Round is an additional round, but you know what they say about assumptions?

I'm expecting it to be considered a home game in our regular allocation. Look at these sides hosting a home game in Adelaide for contending teams:

Freo/GC
Bris/North
Gee/WC

These sides are all losing a game at their interstate home ground, so they are compensated by playing a bottom team.

The non SA home sides hosting sides outside of those three are Richmond, Essendon, GWS and Collingwood.
Three of those can play extra away games at their home ground in Melbourne and the one that can't is playing a side in the running for last place next year.

I think the AFL has bought home games from these clubs with what is supposed to be an easier four points.

Now consider that there is an extra game, an extra four points, on offer next season. Qualifying for the finals will be a new dynamic. Sides like Freo, GWS, Brisbane, Geelong playing lower sides in an extra week will give them an advantage, especially if they are getting to play them twice because of it.

That's great except there is absolutely no guarantee GC (or any other side) is an easy side and the AFL is dumb if they think they can predict that.

The "fairest" way is to just accept that the host teams get a 1 game leg-up each year (not necessarily the case when Vics host), 2 teams get shafted and the rest get a neutral.

My preference would be to use the highest finishing teams from outside the state as the away teams to host teams. So it would be Geelong and Sydney playing Port and Adelaide.
