imagine the *heads you’d have to put up with on BigSoccer - you think this place is bad enough

Greaseball already our best player.

And if you don't agree I'll stab you then set you on fire with a flare.

Soccer administrators making the AFL look competent and then 100 or so supporters completely **** it

There’s a violent undercurrent with soccer supporters worldwide that you just don’t see with other sports

I get that most of them are hangers on and aren’t true supporters as such but it’s virtually unique to soccer.

At AFL games there can be the odd dust up, usually alcohol fuelled, but for the most part opposition supporters can sit side by side in the stands without the need to be separated

And flares FFS, just why?

You around Success/Beeliar or closer still to the fire?

We had a shocker a couple of Summers ago being over in Aubin Grove. Bulk fires in Kwinana and when the sea breeze swung around we got pumped with the smoke. Evap AC 🥲

Success area.

Evap aircon here as well so it goes off every time the smoke comes.

Have a few wall mounted units but they chew the power like crazy.

Wonder what they would do if there was a 50 year deal for the final to be played somewhere ….

Those soccer flogs wouldn't have the guts to try that with an AFL team as they'd get wrecked.

Put your hands on one player and you'd have 35 blokes who love the physical stuff gunning for you.

Weak as piss.

Kind of want to address this.

It isn't so much soccer fans as much as it's soccer is a good excuse/reason to get out other reasons to hate certain groups.

To look at AFL, WCE vs Freo is essentially two franchises with no real reason for true animosity. Same as Clippers vs Lakers or even Yankees vs Mets.

Now Celtic vs Rangers is Protestantism is Catholics. Real Madrid vs Barcelona is Catalan independence vs Franco and the royals. And on it goes.

If Australian footy was the Perth Protestants vs the Canberra Catholics similar would occur. Same reasons the Croatian vs Serbian tennis matches at Australian Open are usually policed a bit heavier than most.

It's not to excuse the actions but there is a lot more reason behind the hate than just sokkah fans gunna fan.

I'm interested to see how the rest plays out. It is a shame though compared to how much goodwill the league had 2 weeks ago.

Yeah, that’s fair and explains a lot of the rivalries. I think the league over here did their best to remove ethnic ties to club a while ago for that very reason

However, and I might be highlighting my ignorance here, but aren’t a lot of the issues English clubs have the result of geographic rather than religious/ethnic differences. So Man city v Man United or Liverpool and Everton

I know some of the South American teams have massive rivalries without knowing the background to those

I worked in a pub in Watford in England for a year in my 20s. When Watford played their local rivals Luton none of the pubs in town were allowed to open until after the game, and after the game the main street where all the pubs were was literally lined in cops until well after closing because there was always, always violence of some kind.
English soccer fans and violence historically go hand in hand (although it's probably better now than it was). Religion has nothing to do with it most of the time, it's just a sport with a fair section of fans who are thuggish campaigners looking for trouble.

RE: Manchester and Liverpool.

Liverpool was one of the busiest ports in the world. Manchester businesses didn't like the levies and fees to use the port, so took their bat and ball, went home and built a canal to bypass Liverpool Port. This cost a lot of jobs in Liverpool and contributed to the rivalry between the cities.

Add to that the jokes made about each clubs tragedies as well. Manchester United had a fatal place crash with most the squad on it, which some Liverpool fans react to singing songs about always look on the runway for ice (to the tune of Always look on the bright side of life) and similar about the two stadium disasters involving Liverpool in the 80s (Heysel and Hillsborough).

Soccer is just a useful outlet/excuse for anger and behaviour that otherwise wouldn't be tolerated (and it shouldn't be, but having 100 morons jump the fence makes it easier to get away with this than just one random).

Warm beer most of all
Ok, it's a long off-season. So for all you ice-cold only, lager-swilling Kents, here's the official explanation:

Lager (/ˈlɑːɡər/) is beer which has been brewed and conditioned at low temperature.[1] Lagers can be pale, amber, or dark. Pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer.[2] The term "lager" comes from the German for "storage", as the beer was stored before drinking, traditionally in the same cool caves[3] in which it was fermented.

As well as maturation in cold storage, most lagers are distinguished by the use of Saccharomyces pastorianus, a "bottom-fermenting" yeast that ferments at relatively cold temperatures
.

For those of you with comprehension issues, here's the pertinent part - "bottom-fermenting" yeast...

Drink proper beer, and stay away from the frosty bum-brew gaiz (NTTAWWT)

I speak truth to power, what can I say.
