People like that is why AFL commentary of games and panel shows are aimed at the lowest common denominator. Get a few results, build a story/narrative around said results, repeat when proven correct, ignore the times you don't.

Also as a math nerd yeah, points for and against is a better indicator of whether a team is good or bad than W/L record. Pretty much every sport this is true (there are some exceptions in regards to NBA and usage rates/ToG)

Imagine on the siren team down 2pts forward marks kicking from 50 out slight angle. A basically 50-50 chance to win the game.

Your team isn't some clutch geniuses because he makes the kick, nor is your team a choker if he misses. Your team is likely relative even vs your opponent regardless.

This series of tweets from a Collingwood supporter is wild

The article that prompted it is one of those expected wins bullshit that pops up each preseason. Essentially looks at clubs that had either a lot of close wins or a lot of close losses, then predicts those sides to rise or fall as they return to a more 50/50 split in close games

It’s a bit erratic but the logic is sort of there, in that a one score result is largely influenced by a bit of luck and it’s not always going to go your way like it did with Collingwood last year until the finals

This all seemed a bit much for Stephanie who wants to claim the bounce of the ball is due to its shape and has nothing to do with luck

It’s quite the work of art

Erm, I assume this is the same KissStephanie of Bay 13 fame (and perhaps TLC)?

Doubt there could be two of them

Dumb as a box of rocks

They've always loved a long-winded nonsensical argument.

I'm surprised that Bombers2003 hasn't made a skin suit out of him/her/them yet more than anything else.

When it comes to WA sporting icons, especially in the football world, there aren’t much bigger than Barry Cable

This is a civil case, not a criminal one, so the standard of proof isn’t as high. It should be noted he was never charged and I don’t recall it ever coming up that he was ever investigated for sexual assault. The allegations stretch back to the late ‘60s so it’s less likely that it would have been reported on back then

As an aside, I must say I don’t really like that he’s been named. As they stand these are allegations on events from 50 years ago and are unproven. If they aren’t and Cable wins the case, then his name is forever tarnished. By all means if the case is successful he deserves to be named at that point, but not before
It has definitely come up in the media before, can't recall if he was named but it was well known Cable was the alleged perpetrator. From memory it was alleged a mate in the police force protected him from charges back in the day.

Maybe Collingwood just trained for the close games*? Did you ever consider that?

*But only home and away

Well I missed all that in the past

Crazy that it’s taken so long. Either he’s been protected from up on high (Kobayashi as lawyer) or the evidence is weak (or at least not considered strong enough to secure a conviction)

The woman took it to court in 2019 after the law changed and the statute of limitations was lifted for sexual assault claims. This is a report from 2002-

Ex-footballer's abuse claims to be aired

A woman at the centre of claims that a former top footballer avoided being charged with child sex offences because of his connections with high-ranking police says she will go public.

The woman claims the ex-footballer, who cannot be named for legal reasons, committed the offences over about 15 years, beginning in the late 1960s, and was investigated by the police child sex abuse unit in 1998.

Lawyer for four former members of the unit, John Hammond, said last week they had interviewed the man and formed the opinion he should be charged with sexual offences over a 10-15 year period.

However, senior officers refused to allow charges to be laid and the investigation was dropped.

Mr Hammond said the four officers alleged that because of the footballer's profile in Western Australia and Victoria he wasn't to be charged.

The case was subsequently investigated by an anti-corruption body which also decided not to proceed with it, much to the disappointment of the officers.

Mr Hammond said his clients had made a submission to the West Australian police royal commission in March, urging it to take up the matter, but had yet to hear back.

Mr Hammond said the woman would go public with her allegations of sexual abuse today to "pay tribute" to the four officers who had stood by her since she reported the claims.

However Mr Hammond said the woman's identity would be protected.

"She's going public but her image will be obscured and her name not released," Mr Hammond told ABC radio.

The Kennedy royal commission, which has been adjourned for over a week, resumes hearings today

Fyfe is a very good footballer and for all I know he was a good captain and teammate but he has an unwavering ability to sound straight out of a cult when he speaks

“I had to really go to hell and back..”

He’s not talking about some personal tragedy, or even the struggles of getting over serious injury

Nope, he’s talking about goal kicking.

It might just be me, but I find he’s always trying to sound overly smart or profound when he speaks
