It's really irrelevant if he was pushed, and pushed could have been a simple, "think it might be time to give someone else a go Nat?"

Regardless, as Mags98 said, he had the s**t job of captaining through rebuild and has had no issues stepping aside just as we are hitting our contending period. Either way, he's being a selfless leader and putting the club first.

I also love Minz reference to his growth. I remember seeing Zac Clarke roll his eyes at Fyfe when he tried to tell him something and it was pretty obvious when he started off as captain he didnt quite have a great handle on the job (something he's admitted himself) but he really grew into the role over the years to be a fantastic leader on and off field.

Cant wait to see full forward Fyfe take the comp apart over the next few years

Zac probably could've had the piss slapped out of him for that...might've helped him

Most positive thing we’ve ever done

s**t captain
The number of strong leaders coming thru tells me otherwise.

That’s one of the absolute best ways to judge the leadership in an organisation.

And as Fyfe said, the leaders coming thru almost all lived with him.

He led by example with his dedication, attention to detail and professionalism. Young players no doubt largely model themselves on him.

He just doesn’t get on the radio and talk shows every 2 minutes.

You know who else also believes Fyfe was pushed???

A Newsreader on channel 9 last night gave his thoughts and said so, can’t recall his name but his last name was Pavlich.

Thew way Pav talks about here is on a completely different angle to what The West was suggesting.

Lol, c'mon dude, he said nothing about being pushed (at least in the way you mean it), of course it was a joint decision with Fyfe, JL and Bell. You're projecting your Fyfe hate here

Personally I give zero ****s if it was suggested to Nat that it was time to step down because it was time and we need to step into a new era with the club

The Fyfe hate here is disgusting.

Pav said exactly what Fyfe said and the club alluded too.

Fyfe spoke extremely well during the interviews and was very clear. The club is in a better position now that we have been at any stage other than 2012 (talent wise). All the core players vying for leadership lived with him for periods, he sacrificed his game and time in the middle to develop those very players, is a generational talent and we have supporters behaving worse than scum supporters.

The talk about leadership and culture is not being backed by any metric or measurable definition. Absolute sewer talk. It reeks of personal incompetence on behalf of those vomiting it to the point of claiming pav said things he did not say.

The desperation and hate is sad.

Provide the metrics and the measurable definitions and we can engage.

I didn't think it was a Freo thing to spew such venomous nonsense at any of our players let alone legends of the club. Pathetic.

Serong is a gun player and articulate and lovely young man but at 21 he's just too young.
Pearce too injury prone.
Brayshaw is the guy for me - 23, gun, gives his heart and soul every week ... also sounds good and looks good!
..

Fyfe seems like the sort of person who can manifest his own mindset through belief. If he believes he's going to be a better player this year because he's stepping away from leadership responsibility, I reckon there's a good chance he'll make that true. If he goes beast-mode in the forward line it could be anything.

Well he won't be constrained by responsibilities as a leader anymore - so if he takes out a few people in the contest, cops the odd suspension for rough conduct, all good. I reckon it gives him a little freedom to go harder, and play freely

How awesome a bloke is Fyfey. Champion player, great leader, amazing intellect, orator, and thinker and more importantly; person. Talented in so many areas and we're so lucky to have had him represent our club - most clubs would kill to have someone of his calibre with them.
And, his value to the club and team is going to be an absolute luxury this year and perhaps next having him supporting from the background. What a resource for the new skipper - whoever it is they're super lucky!

Excellent post, 100% agree

My Buddy is NOD

I am happy with whatever the club decides, but personally I feel like Andy would be a great Captain!

And boy, I hope this decision actually gives Fyfie a new lease of life and he kicks 5 goals in the opening match against the Saints. Nothing like sticking it up your detractors with a match-winning performance. And just quietly, to all the naysayers on Fyfe in general.....go take your face for a sh**!

Very few players have done more for this club and given so much when we were legit poo. Shame on ye, truly

I'm kind of hoping Brayshaw gets the gig. I love Alex Pearce and would be happy with him as Captain. But we all know Pearce's injury history, and we wouldn't want to risk having the captain sidelined long-term again.

Andy is such an exemplar on and off the field. Highest of fitness standards all year round. Aspirational among his teammates. Not to mention, he's well spoken, intelligent and ultimately very marketable. Kinda ticks all the boxes.

Andy as Capt, with Moose as Vice, Serong as Vice Vice. 🙂

Alex hasn’t had a long term injury for three years now, I think. Touch wood.

Well we need to sort out Fyfes new deal, and use that saving for others.
You don’t cut your captains wage by
half and maintain leadership.
The head says trade him to North.
The heart wins, but it usually does.
If North trade anything significant for a 31 year old who just played 7 games, then just ship them off to Tasmania now. They are 3 years away from finals at a minimum
