Injuries may play a large part of what unfolds this season, as it does with all teams - if we have a good run with injuries surely we will improve on 2022 - another preseason with Burgess more games into young guys - adding Rankine, a bigger more confident Thriller, Rachelle in better nick, Soligo, Berry and Harry all to add to their games plus no real need to play Murphy McHenry.

And then there is the Fog making the AFL stand up and take notice.

We have more competition for spots now which just makes everyone better.

I'm excited - this may only last until round 3 or 4 but at the moment I'm going with it.
Last year, the excitement trailed off early in the first game, with diabolically poor disposal evident, with Schoenberg the leading contender who couldn't hit the side of a barn. Then Roo had his say.

.....It shouldn't be too much to ask for better than that, with the excitement lasting for a couple of games in 2023. ;)

Games 2,3,4, & 5 are at Adelaide Oval… a chance for excitement and for the Crows to set up the season.

You say that as tho all of the salt brigade would have some objective stance but they don't, if we finished 5 -8 they'll criticize that we need to bottom out to get good draft picks. Same if we'd finished 8to 12. We go down and get good draft picks and do a rebuild and we "languish"at the bottom. If we finished top 4 give seasons in a row then we'd be useless because we'd been unable to win a premiership. If we won 3 premierships it would still be poor cos other powerhouses have won 4.

Don't confuse astute criticism with unfounded permanent negativity.

can you link a post where you provided a view on a yet to be determined decision of the club? Do you actually ever propose anything prior to the club giving you your opinion?

Bullshit.

Had we had the years down the bottom and then made 5-8 we would have said, holy hell, the rebuilding is working and Nicks can coach.

What’s ironic about the lollipop sucking cheerleading brigade is you resort to having to make stuff up and lie about what we would do, “yeah but you’d say this, yeah but you’d that”. It’s always just guess work and nearly always wrong.

But we don’t need to do that with you lot, the evidence is there. We are stating fact, the lack of critical thinking is there for everyone to see. Even when we * up there is crickets or mental gymnastics to try and justify it. Then there’s deflection “hey look at what those negatives would think next”. The irony is we are more balanced than you lot, we praise when it’s warranted. But when you’ve been a s**t show there ain’t much to praise and a lot more to be critical about.

Carmo 's total contribution to the Sloane thread, which started at his extension many years ago and then transitioned to form, injury and captaincy discussion. Here it is, prepare thyself, because it's pretty intuitive and proves the kid is an astute mind of the game.

Well done Carmo, your insight is truely amazing, you're definitely a 'true supporter'.

He’s asked a question the other day how memberships work, ie in card form or digital.

Now as a true supporter surely he would know this already. Even if he lives interstate there are interstate memberships if you really want to show you’re a true supporter.

There are folks who are inventing things around this to be upset by - projecting motivations and inventing possible discussions.

You'd have to assume they'd do the same, no matter what happened.

If Sloane had made the announcement himself, it would have been evidence that the management actually still wanted him and that they're unable to make the best decisions for our club.

wow. Nobody has criticised the club over this. It's the greatest of strawmen. The club 100% did the right thing, despite the obvious pressure applied. Graded as A++++.

Or maybe it was considered distracting for Sloane's recovery to make public announcements, or maybe there was still internal discussion about the best replacement, or maybe any number of things.

People here project a lot onto the club's actions. All anyone can know is what they actually did, and we have no idea of what influences the decision making.

gee, this is Baccs level delusion, well done, you've outdone yourself Kristof.

I’m surprised you guys are picking Andrew Bolt, Waleed Aly, Ray Martin or Barrie Cassidy… because I’m pretty sure they all know SFA about what goes on at the Adelaide Crows.
Mind you the journalistic style that I most aspire to is more Norman Gunston…

Mostyn is pure mike moore. Self proclaimed intellect, but fundamentally vapid.

Agree with this .....after missing a year, I'm sure Sloane wanted to have one last year as (C)

This is definitely a Club call .....very few know when the time is right to step down

yep, and there's nothing wrong with praising the club for making this decision. But there's a lot of posters that need to claim that it wasn't the club and instead Rory made the call all on his own. Really don't understand why they can't give the club and coaches the credit they deserve.

If we're to challenge for Finals in 2024 ....we have to take a step fwd this year with 10 wins min

you sound a bit impatient, wins aren't the metric right now. No way are we headed to challenging in 2024, 2026/7 is about where our sweet spot is. Assuming we can nail our next 2 early picks with mids or grab a couple via trade or RFA.

that confused me too
was that a brain fade? why would he say that?

was he trying to compare his stepping aside to birdbrains stepping down/sacking? rather than commenting on previous captains?

i don't think Rory is much of a deep thinker. Very much a leader by example of effort.

I've been criticised for my moderate expectations of the Crows the last 2 years .....been supportive of experimentation with player roles, Dawson down back, Doedee ect .....and lowly ladder positions

I believe I've been very patient

However, there comes a time when we need to start to see a pay-off ....the experimentation is over, it's time we see progression towards Finals in 2024 .....8 wins last year, 10 wins (min) in 2023

No-one can convince me, if we finish lower than 14th, we would have had a good season ......it's a win / loss business

I can’t be stuffed looking for stats but Brisbane the perfect example

im pretty sure they skyrocketed from bottom 2 or 3 hardly winning to contender in 1 season.

The last season as a bottom team they hardly won a game but has a solid % (by comparison to wins) because while they weren’t getting the job done they were competitive in most games.

Their % told the story of their progress (along with other subjective signs) not a steady progression of win-loss record

i've seen him post lots of stuff, but never a personal opinion on what he thinks should happen. He's keen to jump on other's opinions, but never actually provides his own. The Sloane captaincy discussion is a classic example. About the biggest story of the off-season and his only involvement was having a personal crack at Sanders in April. But he's not the only one. There's a few that exist to do nothing else than criticise people for their opinions even though they refuse to posit their own.

Expecting us to ascend given the wasteland of half a decade of first round picks is premature. We need 2 more years down the bottom to right those wrongs. Otherwise we're going nowhere.

Nah, the drafting isn't as bad as you're suggesting .....we had Tippetgate, lost 2 years of draft picks & still made a Grand Final

So that argument doesn't float

There's a reason the Club is about to espouse a 5 year Vision .....it's because the organisation also expects 2023 to ascend on the table .....you don't talk 5 year plans, when you're wallowing in 14th spot

What?..

as opposed to the conga-line of complete suckholes in here that can’t ever bring themselves to criticise the club or accept any criticism of it from others… no matter what the club does they continue to dote over it like a new parent..

forever looking upon the AFC like this..

anyone would think we’d played finals every year for the past 5 seasons..

forgive some of us if we want to maybe wait till half way through the season to see how much really has changed..

the clubs spent the last 5 years bumbling it’s way from one disaster to the next.. all the while languishing at the bottom end of the ladder..
We praise the good decisions like dawson being captain but we also call out the players who just aren't good footballers. Keays, murphy etc.

I think we all have favourites and players we detest. I know some on here will think think the opposite but.. I thought Rowe was useless but I have respect for Murphy because he can hit leading forwards on the chest (watch the Fog highlights), is not afraid to have a snap at goal and stuck his neck out for us against Port. 😉. I’m not trying to start an argument and realise that Murph is going to be fighting for a spot. Just sayin’, I think he’s a handy link player but respect others will have different opinions on this.

Yeah Id definitely argue murphy is a better kick than keays.

murphy did that twice in one game FFS but that was it... he is not the level
