Yes, the obstetrician removes stem cells from the umbilical cord and they get sent for freezing - with the idea (touch wood) that if they may be needed for a medical emergency in the future and with the progression of medical research in the area that they could be invaluable for your child. Realistically they will likely never need to use them - and I'd be happy with the outlay in that case.

Not for everyone, but I'm happy with the decision.

Interesting! We never even got offered this. No mention of it at any of our appointments, in hospital or anything else.

I'm not surprised with child the second, but child the first was a private hospital baby with about 100 OB appts so if it were ever going to come up... 🤔

Maybe they’re selective with genetics as to who they offer the option to and they made a mistake when offering it to bender

Bender got up sold the extended warranty?

I know child the second won't need that. She was an emergency Rocko hospital baby. She was born with resilience.

Seriously though if someone offered me that for the first I reckon we would've done it. Took us so flipping long just to fall pregnant we would've thrown any coin at whatever options they gave us.

We were told about it during a birthing class and was given some pamphlets if we wished to proceed. Didnt go through with it as it was very expensive.

Strange they didn't tell you, it's been an option for a long time.
